Delta To Give Away 200,000 Pounds Of Food

Delta has announced that it will be giving away more than 200,000 pounds of food to hospitals, community food banks and other organizations. This food would normally be used in Delta Sky Clubs and onboard but obviously demand for that is down significantly. The actual announcement is a bit confusing as they say they are giving away 200,000 pounds of food, then followed by the fact they have already given away 200,000 pounds of food (are they giving away 400,000 in total or have they already finished giving it away?)

Everyone understands that all that food is deductible for the business at the end of the year?!? They get a tax right off and seem like the good guy for just not letting the food go to waste.

Apparently you don’t understand they’d get the write off (not “right” off) anyway, even if they chucked it out the window into a pile and let the rats eat it.

The hardest thing about this is deciding who gets to eat the first class and who gets eat the economy.

This is a great gesture. Better than some of those distributors throwing away their food because there are no more restaurants and hotels to buy them.

I wonder when flying will pick up again? Yesterday, an article on CNBC believe that domestic flying will start sometime in June (beginning, middle, or end?) and international flights in another 6 months from today.

I haven’t seen any travel blogs indicating when flying (leisure) will start again?

Personally, my fate for my Europe tour in June will be determined next Monday as all Europe tours (Rick Steves) have been cancelled right up until May 31….Let’s see what happens….

Leisure domestic start to pick back up, probably Sept or Oct, to restart at some modest level, July. People aren’t going to let the entire summer get away from them, even if it’s not 100% “safe.” Not going back to pre-Covid levels for at least 3-4 years.

Heck, I never stopped lol. Still got like 10 flights out of the next 12 weekends lined up.

That food was expiring in a couple of months anyway.

Who knows, but of course, if the food is just sitting there and no one is flying (sky clubs closed), then make good use of it.
