Discounted Gift Cards on eBay: Staples, eBay, iTunes, $20 Moneymaker

The Offer

Our Verdict

What’s really awesome about these deals is that they coincide with a promo of 4x eBay Bucks. Both Staples deal and the iTunes deal (when purchasing more than $100 worth of them) will rack up these bonus Bucks.

And since these are sold by Paypal Digital Gifts, chances are that it will earn 5x rewards with INK.

The main issue here is that PPDG has strict limits on how many gift cards they’ll sell you per month, so they may not allow you to checkout.

Resale

The Staples deal can be a resale opportunity. Cardcash is currently offering 81% on Staples e-gift cards.

  • Pay $340 for $400 in Staples gift cards
  • Sell for $324 to Cardcash
  • Net $27.20 in Bucks
  • $3.74 from the portal (or more with the Shopathome portal)
  • Profit: $14.94, plus 1700 UR points from INK, for a total profit of around $20 or more, depending how you value UR points.

Note that prices are constantly in flux, and it’s possible these Cardcash rates won’t last or Cardcash won’t accept the cards for some reason.

A better option for selling the Staples cards is potentially with Raise. After paying the 15% commission rate that Raise charges, you should be able to net around 81% of the face value since the Staples cards usually sell for 3-5% off the face value. If that works out, you’ll end up with the same $20 profit mentioned before, plus you’ll be able to go through the Topcashback portal and get an additional $10 per gift card listing. See Mileswhip’s tips for making sure the portal tracks correctly. (My Raise referral link.)

Even if you don’t have an INK card it can be a great deal:

  • $14.94 from the Bucks and portal, as noted above
  • $20 from the Raise/Topcashback promo
  • Profit: $34.95

You’re saying that Raise pays you right away even before you mail it out? What happens if the person buying claims to not receive the gc in the mail?

I’ve only sold egift cards, so I haven’t had to send anything. I don’t have experience selling physical gift cards through them, but from their terms and conditions, they seem to provide you with a label and deduct $1 per card you have to mail. My experience selling egift cards through them (I’ve sold 4) has been superb – I sold cards on the 8th (saturday), requested ACH and it’s on my Serve account today.

Anyone knows if Cardcash has limits for individual sellers like Saveya does? I sold them the 76 Gas cards (which are still under review) and I also sold them the 2 $200 Staples eGift Codes, but they were declined today

@Jason, not sure what you’ve done in the last 2 days. But, i was successful with Raise – my cards actually sold quicker than expected. First one sold within 10 minutes of going live, while the other sold within 1 hour @ a price point of $190. I felt sad initially, but the deal turned out better thanks to the denial. Best of luck!

I sold them 76 gas cards 7/31 and sent them off. Shows as payment initiated. Wonder if they are just deflecting an overflow of staples cards right now. I did the staplles deal but used them to buy an ipad. Glad I had something to buy. Seems like bull sellers are pushing out the little guys on these deals or perhaps gc churning on ebay has just become too popular. My strategy going forward is any gc purchase needs to be dual useful for real spend and not just churns. Did you send the 76 cards off before it went under review?

That’s exactly my attitude now. I only purchased 1 $200 Staples gc for this deal because I know I can eventually use it. I can’t rely on these companies to follow through as I’ve been screwed over too many times already. I figure in the worst case I can always sell it.

Yes. I did – My 76 were under review when the staples were declined. I’ll be honest with you; in retrospect…it was the best thing that happened to me b/c I sold them on Raise and made more money. Cardcash/ABC would have paid me $324, I was able to sell both on Raise for $332.50. I sold them for $190.00 each, so I netted $323. I was a first time customer, so I used coupon SELLAF10 to get an additional $9.50 on my first sale and if Topcashback tracks them correctly, I should get another $10 per card. I was already paid the initial $332.50 and initiated ACH.

Does Raise charge a fee even if your gc doesn’t sell?

Nope!

To elaborate, they charge a flat 15% of the selling price to individual sellers (bot sure about bulk sellers) and you set your own selling price and the money is immediately available for withdrawal once your card sells. The default cash-out option is a check, but you can sign up for ACH. BTW, I always sign up for ACH using Serve b/c they can put money in, but not take money out – I don’t want to give anyone access to withdraw money from my account 🙂

I just went to their site. It seems like I need to signup just to view their rates. Is that correct?

Got two separate notifications of gift cards being ready around 5P EST approximately one hour after ordering.

Anyone get one of the Staples giftcards and not the other? Wondering if I should contact Paypal or wait it out.

I got my second Staples e-gc about 7 hours after the first.

I think Paypal digital gifts says delivery in 24 hours (which is ridiculous, it’s digital, which should it even take that long). But if you don’t get it by then I’d contact them.

Never seen this one before: Paypal told me “we’re unable to send your payment right now” on a payment of $0.00

Same here, it is so strange. It first told me they had to verify some information and asked me to login to Paypal, and I saw this message.

Nice. Talk about sun(4x fuel points), moon(4x ebay bucks), and stars(giftcard deal) aligning.

Random question I should probably easily know the answer to but… How do you get the profile pictures to display when you post?

I hate Staples! Why won’t they let you buy other gc’s using their own gf? Unfortunately this deal is useless to me, as I find no value in buying and reselling. Thanks for posting though.

It’s not possible online. Have you checked in store?

These are electronic Staples gift cards on sale. I don’t see how checking in store is going to help.

It has bar code that can possibly be scanned. I just bought gift cards from best buy with their e-gift card two days ago.

Nice! Yeah ya never know what a cashier will/will not do at Staples. Point is it’s not hard coded at the register to reject it.
