eBay sent out an email that they are discontinuing selling eBay gift cards. They might remain temporarily in stores. Nothing changes for existing gift cards, and they won’t ever expire.
A bit strange why they wouldn’t sell gift cards. Selling them in retail stores does cost them a percentage, but direct sales from eBay is a bigger surprise that they’d discontinue.
Starting August 3, 2026, eBay will no longer sell physical or digital eBay gift cards online. For a limited period, physical eBay gift cards will remain available for sale in select stores.
If you already have an eBay gift card, you can continue to use your balance on eBay just as you do today. In the U.S., gift card balances do not expire.
If you return an item, we may still offer you the ability to choose an eBay gift card as your refund option.
