Discover 10% Bonus with Apple Pay, $2,000 Profit per Discover Card!

Discover announced today that starting September 16, cardmembers will be able to add their Discover cards to Apple Pay. As part of the rollout, they are making an amazing offer.

The Offer

Direct Link

  • Use your Discover cashback card with Apple Pay and get a 10% cashback bonus for up to $10,000 of in-store purchases.
  • Use your Discover it Miles, Miles and Escape with Apple Pay and earn an extra 10 miles per dollar on up to $10,000 of in-store purchases.

This offer is available from September 16 until years end. You can get 10% or 10-miles on up to $10,000 in purchases over those 3 & 1/2 months.

The Fine Print

  • In-store purchases only
  • In stores, Apple Pay works with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch, as well as iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, upon availability.

Our Verdict

Wow! Wow! Not much more to say.

In the past, we’ve verified that ALL Discover cashback will be doubled at years end (for those enrolled in the double cashback offer), even for things like referral bonuses and Deals. It’s fair to assume this 10% bonus will be doubled as well.

This means you can get $2,000 cashback on $10,000 in spend. You may think it’s hard to do $10,000 in spend, but it’s not. Walgreens and Duane Reade accept Apple Pay and they sell $500 Visa gift cards. And there are probably some other good options as well. Let us know other ideas in the comments.

I may buy an iPhone to take advantage of this offer (ATT Access perhaps?). Or you can try asking a friend to use their phone. It could also make sense to apply for another Discover card in order to take advantage of this offer as it would be the equivalent of a $2,100 signup bonus; $2,000 from the promo + $100 from the initial signup via referral.

I cant seem to find 100 discover referral or signup bonus. Anyone care to share? Thx!

Mike,

Since Discover doubles your cash rewards over the 12 month period, the standard $50 signup bonus is equivalent to $100. Here is my referral link, it’s standard $50 bonus. I’d appreciate it.

Thx Marco, but is this just for student card?

Nope, it’s on all cards. I’m sure somebody will be happy to refer you for the normal it.

Hi Mike,

Just confirmed with Customer Service. Just don’t fill the education part and it will automatically go for normal discover it card.

Appreciated if you can use my link below. I will receive $50 too and so I will send you $5 amazon gc after bonus posted. Contact me if any question through johnins2000@gmail.com.

I recently received an unsolicited offer to open a Platinum Business Discover Card “Reward Card”. …with a large line of credit. Will this card also work?

Wow indeed. Discover is going all out. First the doubled cashback and now this.

So whats the cheapest iPhone that is capable of ApplePay? Im an Android faithful but would not hesitate to pick up a cheap iPhone to utilize this

A 5s will work. Its the 1st one with finger touch ID.

No, a 5s will not work with Apple Pay. You a watch or a 6 or higher.

this is correct, the 5S has touch ID but not the NFC chip that is required.

No it won’t. See here:

iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s and 6s Plus

Are you sure it is (1%+10%)*2=22% or 1%*(1+10%)*2=2.2%?
The words are not clear actually…

seems pretty clear actually: “Discover it Miles, Miles and Escape cardmembers will earn an extra 10 miles per dollar” – sounds like a full 10% back.

Yes… that’s an excellent point!

Although in the past when they talk about cashback bonus, they mean straight cashback. I think this is the real deal.

Is this real life?

Or is this just fantasy?

Caught in a landslide,
No escape from reality.

Hi,

I am not quite sure I understand this correctly, say typical cashback of using Discover in store is 1%, then with this bonus, it will be 11%, not 1.1%? For me, I really think 1.1% makes more sense, but I really hope it is 11%, lol.

Is apple pay acceptable for paying VGC at Walgreens?

have not yet signed up for the double promotion. But this seems yummy. Is it still possible?

No, you can’t sign up for the double promotion if you’re an existing customer. It is available to people who sign up for a new card though.

I’m not counting my chickens before they hatch. I’ll take the 10%, and if they give me an extra 10%, then I’ll be much happier.

Funny story, Android user here since it’s inception and I was planning to switch to iOS for the first time with the 6s because I’m sick of the lack of support android handset makers give their phones after a year is up. Problem is I now have to buy VGC’s one at a time from Walgreens with their stupid limits. If only CVS gave in and took Apple Pay, this would be easy.

So you have been able to make purchases at Walgreens with Apple Pay? I’ve never tried buying vgc from Walgreens, I don’t know how cc friendly they are. Though I recognize that this is pretty YMMV store to store.

Never with ApplePay, but with Amex card yes. They recently started being strict about one VGC per purchase, per person, per day. Unlike CVS, they don’t have a tracking system that scans your ID and enforces the limit. I have heard Walgreens in different areas have gone cash only though for VGC’s, so best to test before you leap. Sadly, something like this may catch their attention with the sudden spike in volume and ApplePay transactions. Let’s hope it doesn’t get shut down.

Does anyone know if I can refer myself for a second Discover It card?

just got off the phone with discover.. it doesn’t look like you can get the referral credit AND the double cash back – that’s what i was told after a long “research” hold anyway.

That’s not true, the referral pages mention the double cash back promotion.

I’m chatting with discover now to try to rectify under misinformation. I was literally told not to use the referral link if i wanted the double cash back.

Is this automatic or do we need to sign up for it?

For all practical purposes- is this 20% cash back for general spend?

Assuming it’s spend at a merchant that takes Apple Pay(which many big ones don’t), you have Apple Pay, and you got the double cashback bonus, yes.

Wow.. If the Walgreens/Apple pay route really does work this is going to be too good to last…

So, I can add two Discover cards to Apple Pay? This sounds like a great reason to get a Miles card to go with my It.

Does the apple watch by itself with no phone or data work with apple pay? I was thinking of just paying $350 for one of those to take advantage of this. If that works, that seems to be the cheapest option for non iphone users.

Thanks for any info

No, your apple watch has to pair with an iphone5 or newer model for using apple pay in store. FYI, http://www.apple.com/apple-pay/

No. The Apple watch won’t pair with an Android Phone. And it won’t support Apple Pay unless its paired with an iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, or iPhone 5s.
