Grandfathered Rate

If you’ve been procrastinating signing up for Drop, now is the time. Drop informed us that beginning October 10th rates ongoing-earn rates will decrease. Those who sign up now during their soft-launch period will be grandfathered into the current rates (full list here) as an appreciation for sticking with them as they learn the market.

The rate change is only for ongoing-earn offers. One-Time offers will continue and won’t decrease in value or frequency.

Our Verdict

We introduced Drop back in June. People were having a lot of problems with Drop at rollout, but now it’s working fine, probably due to the addition of the $5/wk earning limit.

Some people don’t like chasing $5 deals, and some don’t like giving their card logins for security or privacy reasons (more details here). Others find this it a nice way to earn a small bonus continuously, up to $260 per year if you max out the $5/wk. They’vel also had some nice one-time offers which are not included in this limit for places like Wealthsimple, Boxed, Plastiq and more.

Drop reached out to us with an offer to increase our referral earning (we get $1 per signup). They agreed to instead pass on a better bonus to our readers.

I don’t think 12 hours is a particularly long time you’ve been waiting?

Over 24 hours now. I really don’t mind how long it takes. Maybe it’s 2 days like the dosh bonus? I was just posting as a DP if anyone else is wondering on posting times. There was a DP above saying it only took them a couple hours.

lmao so many butthurt people in comments. entitled people getting mad because a startup app in “beta” choose to not go bankrupt by paying MSers and abusers. some even filed CPFB complain against a Canadian rebate app lol. and then there are those accusing doc of….wait for it…making $1 (or none?) referral bonus on drop….hilarious. if he wanted he could be shelling out credit card referrals directly from cc issuers and making $200+ on every referral for cards like PRG.

P.S. thanks for the referral doc. signed up a family member. i myself have had 0 trouble with Drop.

Reactions from many people were, in my opinion, very unwarranted. Doc/Chuck in no way endorsed Drop. They were simply offering a better-than-public signup bonus for a service that many readers have likely yet to sign up for. Where in this post did they advocate for Drop? They do the same thing every day with other banks. This was surprising and ugly.

I’m thankful for posts like this, in spite of all the people who have had poor experiences with this particular company. Doctor of Credit is a wonderful resource for unbiased reviews/information. It’s up to us as readers to decide for ourselves what we’re comfortable signing up for and who we give/sell our data to. Thank you Chuck and Will for all your hard work!

Hopefully Drop execs are reading these comments because although harsh, they are brutally honest. If you guys are reading this, here’s my message – I want to let you know your company is a bait and switch, holding many of our points hostage even though we earned them fairly before you changed your terms. Your current $5/week max is laughable and not worth the trouble of letting you monitor all our spending activities and having our sensitive bank logins. I seriously hope your company goes under in the foreseeable future. I really do.

Just wanted to say I’ve had an amazing experience with Drop. Easy to link my credit cards and all of my purchases have tracked. When I’ve requested a gift card, I get it in minutes. It really can’t get any easier than that. If you’re scared about giving up your bank credentials, don’t. Just link the credit card accounts that don’t have a bank account tied to them. I highly recommend signing up now if the reward rates are going to drop.

Just used Doc’s link and signed up. Redeemed for a $5 starbucks gift card instantly. Don’t intend to use the app though, giving them my bank logins does make me uncomfortable. Used TD bank login today, because I’m closing that account tomorrow ($300 posted a week back!!!).

Can’t believe you are promoting them after they screwed us over when they launched. Still have my CPFB case pending with them.
