Does The Chase 5/24 Rule Apply To The Chase Marriott Premier Plus Card?

When Chase launched the new Marriott Premier Plus card I automatically assumed that the Chase 5/24 rule would apply to this card as it applied to the previous Chase Marriott card. Reader usernamechuck pointed out that there was two successful datapoints of people being approved despite being over 5/24 on the DansDeals post regarding the new card, @spencerformiles also had a rep tell a friend that this card is not subjected to the rule.

I don’t put much stock into what reps say and often people think they are over 5/24 but they aren’t (either due to miscounting on including things like business cards not reporting to personal reports). So I did what any sane person would do and collected all the datapoints I could find (in hindsight there wasn’t many). I’ve split them into two categories: people claiming to be approved over 5/24 and people being denied who are over 5/24. Keep in mind that Chase will often state that you’re denied due to too many accounts in the last 24 months, even on cards without the 5/24 rule applied.

  • Approved despite being over 5/24: 1, 2, 3,
  • Denied over 5/24: 1, 2, 3, 4,

My personal opinion is that the 5/24 rule does apply to this card and it was simply a case of miscounting. Please share your own datapoints in the comments below. Also keep in mind there is a different offer on the Marriott Premier Plus that might be better for some readers.
