Our Verdict
I usually find eBates/Rakuten rates to be much lower than other portals, some readers have more success with tracking compared to other portals but I can’t say I’ve ever noticed a difference myself. Use cashbackmonitor to compare to ensure you’re getting a good deal. If you don’t already have an eBates/Rakuten account then I’d appreciate you using my link here, you can also convert existing accounts into an account that earns American Express Membership Rewards points.
Question about Rakuten: can I book something to earn MR points and then cancel the order? Will I be in any trouble by doing that? Can Rakuten track it and cancel the rewards or even punish me? I happen to find that worked once I placed a wrong order and cancelled then re-ordered.
Nothing beats RetailMeNot’s Genie add on – Most of the time I get the highest cash with it. This morning my fiance wanted to get new sandals from Clark’s and all the others offered 6%, but the Retailmenot offered 16%. This is usually how it goes and I’ve never had a tracking issue. Unfortunately the cashback monitor doesn’t ever show it as an option.
I love retailmenot’s coupon codes but what is the Genie add on? What do you earn with it?
For me Ebates tracks 100% and swagbucks 50%…so if Ebates is better than half as good it’s good enough.
You can also chat with real people at Rakuten/Ebates, rather than submit a support ticket and wait an indefinite amount of time for an answer.
Oh…off select stores. That should be in title. I got excited thinking 3x at GiftcardMall.com.
Too bad. I’m a big fan of Ebates with the Amex transfer and great customer support.
wine.com doesn’t seem to participate as much in their site wide promos

Kinda like Hy-Vee grocery stores. Once a year they run a Buy 1 Get 1 deal, which is of course after they double the prices.
How would Rakuten double the prices in this case?
By lowering the base cashback rate.
