eBay Giftcards Can Be Used To Purchase 3rd Party Giftcards From September 13th Till October 13th

Update: Now live!

On August 22nd, eBay changed the terms on their gift cards to no longer allow the purchase of third party gift cards without any notice. A lot of people complained and filed complaints with the California attorney general. eBay has been contacting people that have made these complaints letting them know that a grace period will be added and everybody will be able to purchase third party gift cards with eBay gift cards from September 13th until October 13th, 2016.

How good this news is really depends on whether eBay will still have third party gift card sales and eBay bucks bonus offers during this period or not. I suspect they will as it’s the last month for Q3 and they’ll want to pad their numbers somewhat but we will have to wait and see. If not then you might want to have a look at our list of the best options for purchasing full price gift cards.

But what about eBay bucks? Will they be treated like gift cards after October 13?

Thanks for the info – What about the limit – Will they still have a limit enforced during this month that only this amount of gift cards can be used ?

Too bad. I was hoping they will scrap this altogether and allow gift card purchases again.

I had sent ebay a few messages about asking for a refund on my ebay gift cards i purhcased because they changed the terms after the fact and consider it bait and switch and they should either allow me to cash them out or use them to purchase gc. They completely ignored the messages/ Didnt think about contacting attorney general so good to know

I also emailed them, and the exact same thing has happened to me –They completely ignored all the emails i sent. I have filed a dispute with my credit card company, and was thinking to sue them in small claim court if the issue cannot be resolved. The customer service of paypal and ebay is so unbelievably bad (especially compared to Amazon, or the norm in this country). I really hope someone can step forward to file a class action against them or build another company to end their monopoly in C2C.

Whoo! I have about 5k in eBay GCs that I can unload now.

The limit of 2k per 60 days still applies ?

I would hope he was already planning on circumventing these limits by redeeming across multiple accounts. Even still, that’s a whole lot of leverage and risk for just reselling gift cards which is pretty meager profit margins. I can understand if you’re doing serious reselling, but not gift cards.

There is the possibility that Andrew was buying the ebay gift cards themselves at substantial discount.

Will the $2000 limit apply during this period

What about the $2k limit per 60 days. What good is it if there is a limit in place?

I guess it just depends on whether or not you’re at your cap. Odds are that by October 13th you’ll have opened up rolling 60 day capacity. And we’re not even sure if the $2k cap is in effect, although I’d assume it will be. Either way it’s a positive development by a company that virtually never concedes to its customers.

Wow, what’s the difference between eBay and other merchants that do not allow 3rd party GCs with their store GCs? Perhaps you should complain to all the stores. You got lucky this time that eBay is giving a chance to liquidate.

That’s not the story at all. The complaint was that eBay violated/replaced their own widely advertised terms. eBay typically does not concede legal errors, and just pays the fines and penalties. Since they did it this time, they must’ve felt some serious heat.

I just have a few hundred $ left to cash out. Awesome.

This is NOT good enough. They will likely have very few (if any) sales on GCs and I will be pressured to trade my eBay GCs from Steak & Shake GCs or something crappy like that. Since they have seriously devalued the worth of these eBay GCs without prior notice I feel I should get a full refund of the face value.

Any word on if they will also allow the grace period on coins and bullion?

My guess is yes, but wouldn’t be surprised if we can’t. I think they’ll just revert to an open policy for a rolling month and then close the doors again with a big middle finger.

Oct. is the Bux spend month. Usually much fewer good Bux offers during those months.

My GC purchase on 9/8 from ebay didn’t show up as a transaction at top cash back.

Nothing of mine from the 6th on has reported so far but it has happened before. I once had to wait a week for them to roll up.
