Some American Express cardholders are reporting additional rewards in their account. The issue seems to be caused by having a referral bonus that posts multiple times (even though the cardholder has only received one referral). For example one cardholder referred one friend and now has a $600 rewards balance after $75 posted each day for multiple days in a row. This is not due to the 3 extra points per $1 spent referral bonus as the cardholders affected aren’t spending that much.
