[Expired] Fandango Launches Loyalty Program ‘Fandago VIP+’ (Four Tickets = $6)

Program has now expired.

Fandago has launched their loyalty program called ‘Fandango VIP+‘. The program is pretty simple:

  • Each ticket purchased earns 150 points
  • 600 points is worth a $6 reward that can be used towards tickets, move streaming or merchandise

The downside to the program is that after you earn 600 points you have only 14 days to redeem the $6 reward otherwise it expires. That’s a ridiculous expiration policy. The loyalty program itself has an expiration date as it will end on August 31st, 2018 (although they might expand or change it, in which case points will roll over). This is more of a limited time promotion than a loyalty program really. To make matters even worse when you redeem your points towards a movie ticket you receive a ‘discount award’, this is really a promo code that can’t be combined with any other promo codes or discounts. Your $6 can’t be used towards gift cards either before you get any ideas.

Fandango is in a tight spot at the moment, they are facing competition cinema subscription options such as MoviePass & Sinemia and at the same time the studios are pouring money into AtomTickets as a direct competitor. I don’t think this loyalty program is going to do much to make Fandango a more attractive option.

Wife and I have AMC Stubs Premiere because it makes more sense for how we want to see movies (reserved seating, opening Thursday night, sometimes 3D). The annual fee has already been paid for within a few weeks, we get “free” popcorn and drinks at a fast rate; and the $5 Tuesday is a great deal, esp when treating a group of friends.

I got excited when I saw this title because we can get AMC rewards while using Fandagno; was hoping I could get something useful to stack.

Alas, the super short time frame makes it almost unusable.

I think you should have a “terrible stuff” tab for things like this.

This is actually pretty cool if you have Sinemia (though the 14-day policy is ridiculous). Keep in mind that Sinemia allows you to buy advance tickets via Fandango, and enter your Stubs number to accrue Stubs benefits. My wife and I see 2 movies a month with Sinemia, and always purchase with Fandango. We only pay 17.50 per month as it is. That is offset by the amount of Stubs rewards we earn, and now can get some free Fandango cash as well. Like I said, just wish it didn’t expire so fast.

I agree with you doc – this loyalty program is terrible. One would be better off having loyalty with one theater and entering this membership number when purchasing tickets through fandango.
