Is the bonus should be counted in the $6500 Roth IRA yearly limit? I received the $100 bonus in my Roth IRA account but it seems like Fidelity website is still showing the amount what I contributed without the $100 bonus under “IRA contributions”. Does that mean I can invest $6600 this year?

Steven True that you will end up with $6600 in your Roth IRA account which you are free to invest (e.g. $50 initial contribution + $100 bonus + $6450 contribution).

Have an interesting DP…

2/02: opened trad IRA and contributed $50 via ACH
2/10: reclassified trad IRA contribution to existing ROTH account (didn’t realize I wasn’t eligible for trad IRA deduction)
2/28: $100 bonus posted to trad IRA account opened on 2/2

I figured after the reclassification I wouldn’t get it…but no complaints from me! Maybe I’ll look into having them reclassify the bonus…

2/4: opened account
2/8: $50 deposit confirmed
2/28: $100 bonus posted to cash. Didn’t have any confirmation of qualifying like others have reported, but still got it.

To confirm, withdrawing the $100 is subject to the 10% penalty even though it’s not invested?

02/01/2023: Opened and contributed 50

Emailed that I had been eligible, also that I wasn’t. Dashboard showed bonus was coming.

Talked to support and they said I wasn’t eligible because of I did a non ira 50 for 100 bonus in December.

fuck you know Hbs2018 same thing here.. got confirmation on web site I qualified and met requirements.. got multiple e-mails confirming it.. but when the $100 never credited.. I chatted today and they told me the exact same thing!!!!!

What are the next steps.. CFPB or other complaints? which others?

I would have never opened this IRA without the bonus confirmation.

I just asked them to close the account and they did. Not worth potentially ruining relationship with them when I’ve gotten 100s of other free dollars from them.

Good post! Did you invest in your Roth IRA account? I decided to invest in mine and not just deposit. I’m disapointed that they would lie to us on the phone.

I opened Roth IRA account and made $50 deposit, but didn’t get any emails about bonus eligibility. Should I worry about it? Or someone has similar experience?

If you don’t receive anything in 40 days (15 to deposit, 25 to provide bonus afterwards) inquire.

@jay I think the terms are 15 days for initial deposit + 10 days for bonus to post, so 25 days, not 40.

2/7/23 ACAT of securities landed
2/9/23 See confirmation in my “All accounts” view on web: You’re all set. We’ll deposit your cash reward within 25 days of opening your account.

Thanks for posting. I just checked and saw the same thing. Interestingly I signed up and everything worked fine despite having done a similar bonus in the past. P2 did exactly the same as I did and got a message about being ineligible for this account bonus. We had nearly identical time frames so it wasn’t that mine was years earlier etc.

Yes, existing. There is no ineligibility to being existing. I have many Fido accounts.

Update, thus far, neither one of us has gotten the bonus. I think they’re going to tell me to pound sand when I follow up.

Jay how long had it been since your last bonus?

I got $150 for a CMA in Dec 22. Had to ask though for manual credit. But got related $25 for setting a savings goal on the CMA, automatically credited.

Did the Bloom app promo over Dec/Jan 22/23.

Previously did CMA for $100 in June 21.

I have a lot of assets at Fidelity so maybe they’re nice to me and will manually credit as long as the promo code enrolled OK.

Jay i have a lot of assets at Fidelity.. they gave me hard NO to the $100 bonus.. even after multiple calls and chats. Sucks.. I’m gonna move funds to Vanguard or somewhere else.

Is the bonus going to be in the IRA account or money market account?

Jay
Jay (@guest_1553296)

It should go into the account you opened. If you opened an account with a CMA and another, it will go into the CMA.

There is no “money market account.” Certain accounts (non-CMA) have a money market fund as the core position.
