Frontier Airlines: Status For U.S. Issued Travel Rewards Credit Cardholders ($80/$499 Fee)

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Frontier Airlines is offering free elite 20k status for travel rewards credit card holders in the USA. There are two offers:
    • Get elite status through December 31, 2023 for $499
    • Get elite status through September, 2023 for $80 application fee and keep it until the end of year when you earn 5,000 points.

Our Verdict

Seems like a copy of the Spirit Airlines deal but much more expensive and not as useful. This gives you free carry on bag, free seat assignment, upgrade to stretch seating for free. Overall this status match deal this looks bad. Might be worth it for people with the Summer Pass.

Do we get it for next year if we earn 10k miles before 12/31? I paid 80 and got it extended by flying 5k miles but not sure if it can extend for 2024 ?

They raised prices. Now the purchase is $599 and the challenge is $199 (for status until 12/31). The challenge would’ve been worth it before with just one round trip of a carry-on, but now it would take at least 2.

They seem to have changed the terms again. $599 for status through 12/31/24 or $199 for the first 1,000 people and then $299 after that for status through 12/31/23 and an option to extend longer by earning miles.

Does anyone know if this benefit can be applied to flights that have already been booked?

I was able to have Frontier refund the baggage fee through chat after giving them my account # with the newly purchased Elite 20K status.

Yes, it’s a shocker hearing “refund” and “Frontier” mixing together……but it happened and the chat agent was very straightforward processing it right away

You make back the value with ~1 RT but then you are subjected to a Frontier flight. Would hop on if it was more than 7 months.

Before the pandemic I would be interested, but the one Frontier flight that now comes to my home base in Portland is the worst red eye I have ever seen. Departs at 12:40 AM and arrives in Denver at 4:15 AM, only 2hr 35m. I have no idea who subjects themselves to that flight, but it will never be me.

I’ve got two upcoming Frontier flights. The carry-on is alone me spending $80 to try it out. I’ll try this one and report back. Might have to book a trip to Vegas to earn some points.

FYI: You need contact Frontier through their live chat to make any changes to existing bookings. Just went through that since I had the same thought as you!

The requirement for the $80 option fee to extend to year end is to earn 5000 Frontier miles.

Possibly worth it for summer pass holders.
