Weird to see a paid status match like this, but might be worth considering for people that plan to fly with spirit for the free bag benefits.
I signed up on Thursday and have not gotten gold yet. Statusmatch sent an email that I was approved but spirit still has not given me status. Anyone else sign up and pay and didn’t receive status yet?
Same here, let me know when you get it. I am thinking calling customer service.
Mine took 7 business days but got it
It took 5 business days for mine to show. But it did finally update!
I recently flew on a couple of spirit in a southwest flight after years of of only flying American and United. The clientele on the airlines is quite different, and I would much rather the upper class airlines
Reading down the comments, I’m repulsed by how many ppl here actually fly with them. But then I realize & changed my mind, that it’s actually a blessing cuz it lessens the crowd in the trad airlines. So far, I lost count on how many free upgrades to F I’ve gotten from lowest main cabin fare class, in this year–prob over 80%. Burn thru lotta meals & alcohol.
Some people are stuck with spirit due to lesser routes. Others don’t mind the chaos to save $50 while carrying a backpack. Regardless, glad you’re getting the upgrade but leave the people alone.
I sometimes fly spirit because the big seat is the best offer regardless of what happens in the seats behind me.
i strongly believe flying spirit/frontier shortens your lifespan by a few months for every flight
Based on my experience this is true and it’s not even the flight itself- it’s mostly the people on it.
The only airline degens can “afford”, so that’s the ppl they get + their (lack of) cs & reimbursement actively pushes away reasonable ppl.
Not really. My wife and I have done a lot of fun vacations while flying Frontier. No different than flying saver fares with any of the traditional airlines.
Do the people I travel with also get the benefits of free checked bags? Or just me?
Just you. No benefits for companions 🙁
Just you
William Charles Site now shows this offer ending “Sunday 23 April at 11:59pm PST.”
I have had Spirit Gold via a direct status match with Spirit a couple years ago, and I would say the best perks of this status if you are on the fence are:
– Flight Flex: If you are booking with points, you can book for yourself and others and have full refundability up to the minute you check in, so you basically have the same ability to cancel/refund as Southwest points, which is super valuable.
– Free Carry on and checked bag: Because if you’re flying with 2 people, you can both bring Carry-ons and just drop one at bag drop.
– Free exit row seat (or any seat that’s not big front seat) for you, but you have to pay for everyone else, which is LAME as it won’t necessarily sit you together.
You can also still do the Airport trick and book at the airport with the waived Passenger Usage Fee, then call them to add the Spirit Gold if they didn’t know how at the airport. I booked 7 people for a 3 day weekend DTW-MSP last year for like $288 total cost, added Gold for a couple free bags, yadda.
My Gold expires on 12/31/23, I tried to do the match anyway hoping to get 12/31/24 – was “approved”, but nothing has happened yet. I am probably the DP that I didn’t want to see.
Hey Justin. I also see that Spirit waives overweight fees for checked bags which is great cause they only allow 40lbs normally. Do you know if they waive oversize bag fees also or any knowledge of this perk?
Yo Zeke,
Sorry for the delay. I have no first hand experience with the checked bag waiver, but it seems pretty clear they are waiving it. It’s better you’d try it now than when Spirit Gold first started, as when I first had it, they didn’t even know how to give me the free snack and drink.
DP: I got my status “matched” and my expiration is 5/1/24. Less than half of what I’d hoped for.
How much was the Passenger Usage Fee per ticket?
Awesome post!
Submitted Monday 4/10 and received a survey from status match on 4/11 asking me to rate the service. That seemed kind of odd because when I checked the website for the status it said pending approval. I then checked my Spirit account and status was showing gold. I received an email today from Spirit congratulating me on obtaining gold but still nothing from status match which I guess is irrelevant at this point.
Applied today – matched from Wyndham Diamond with screenshot, approved same day.
I was on the fence, as I’ve only flown spirit a few times, but I think this could make it a much better option. Hopefully I find value in it within a years time.
4/10 applied, got email asking me to verify identity, did some webcam + driver’s license verification, got rejected for god knows what reason since I’ve never done a Spirit status match
Reaching out to statusmatch.com support to see if they can do anything otherwise I’m strongly considering a chargeback. Buyer beware
Same happened to me. Did just enough research to see if you do a chargeback you can never use statusmatch again. Then it turned out I was approved after all. Even though I got the message that I failed verification. Mine came through within half an hour of being told that I failed. So hang tight and hopefully the same happens to you?
