[Expired] Giant, Stop&Shop, Martin’s: 2x Fuel Points on Mastercard Gift Cards [5/18-5/24]

This deal has expired, view more Giant deals here.

The Offer

Stop&ShopGiantMartin’s (page 11)

  • Get 2x fuel points on the purchase Mastercard gift cards at Giant, Stop&shop, and Martin’s.

Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.

The Fine Print

  • Valid 5/18/18 – 5/24/18
  • Must use store card to get and use the points
  • Be sure to double check that your local store is running this offer before buying
  • “We now accept credit cards for the purchase of Visa, Mastercard, and American Express gift cards”

Gas Points Details

Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon.

  • Max discount in some areas is $1.50. In other areas, there might not be any max.
  • You have 30 days to use the points. The day of purchase is Day #1. (Giant PA and Martins might expire at the end of the following month.)
  • Points can only be used at partner Shell stations. You can redeem the points in a different area from where you got the points, but only if that Shell station is a partner. Check out the gas locator for Stop & Shop and for Giant for exact listings of which Shell stations are included. (Giant PA and Martins might only be valid at their own gas stations.)
  • See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
  • Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
  • Pro tip: Use a Shell gift card and you’ll usually get the cash price; it’s especially worthwhile to get the lower cash price when using fuel points.

Our Verdict

Not as good as the 4x offers they sometimes have, but still not bad at all. Readers have said they enjoy the heads-up so we’ll post now and repost when it goes live.

While you are limited to getting $1.50 discount from grocery fuel points, you can bring down the  cost further by utilizing the Fuel Rewards program (assuming you have the accounts linked). You can get at least $.05 additional discount, plus so many other deals like card-link deal at the grocery (though reports are this hasn’t been working lately), and this Chase Pay deal.

Use Freedom or Discover to max out the quarterly categories, or use any other card that earns bonus rewards at the grocery.

Nice I’m down to my last few $ in discounts from the Visa promo last month. Giant is the best!

Thanks doc for the heads up. these deals are coming by so often now that there is no need to stock up. Still got the extra gas can from Target which appears to have the best can and deal at this time. 5 gal can is 12.x and the spout beats the Costco version though from the same company.

I think the SureCan gravity cans are the best. Haven’t tried whatever Target is selling though.

Harry, can you link me to this can? I’m very frustrated with my current nozzle. I hate the safety nozzles.

Google “ez pour hi flo” They are the best and sell for under $10 on ebay and in some stores. You may need a narrower version if you have a newer capless gas tank on your car.

Some states restrict sales of the hi flo spout so you may need to look for the “water can version” (which is exactly the same only white in color). Personally, I spill far less with this spout (almost never) than the wacky EPA mandated ones (mine spilled a little every time). I’ve been rocking several jugs for the gas points deals for years and added air inlet thingies to my jugs too. I can empty a 5 gal jug in 30 seconds now.

Been a while since I’ve seen it under $10 on Ebay — more like $14 and up (w/ shipping). There’s been several scam artists doing fake sales of multi-packs, then after they get your money, they claim someone hijacked their accounts…. then refuse delivery. balderdash. What a hassle to get ebay to correct the wrong(s). Got mine cheaper and with no hassle via amazon. (oddly enough)

Concur with you on the ez pour as best current solution (several garbage alternative models out there) …. But it’s not perfect. (beginning with the threads)
Personal tip from bad experience: Don’t leave them where varmints can get at them. Have no idea why, but Racoons love that cheap, very thin white “louver” plastic on the nozzles. (and will shred them in seconds — sic)

Single biggest boost to fuel flow is quite simply the air inlet “thingies.” 🙂 (good ole’ basic physics ‘splains that) I have seven of the old 5 gal cans now in need of “fixing” within the family, and just bought six of the “thingies” — now to install them with no leaks. (? — any tales of wisdom on that out there?)

I’m not going ga-ga over it, its just that I have tried different spouts including the “ez pour” one from below as well as the Costco one. The ezpour does work in some cases – so I keep it as one of the options.
The Target one works best for me though the spout itself is on the shorter side and there will be initial spillage if you pour with a can that is near or over the 5 gal mark…not much can be done for that though – its the same in all spouts. So ymmv and its probably worth to experiment and find for yourself what works best.

-100 Neither funny, relevant or the least bit helpful. (Perhaps you’ve never tried using one of the infernal EPA cans….. if you had, you’d realize it’s anything but “funny”)

I’m seeing $49.99 for ONE glorified piece of plastic. Given all the other miserable, don’t last long “self-venting” alternatives I’ve tried, it would be quite a shock if this actually works…. But no way in….. I’m going to pay $50 for the privilege, per can.

U need to pm that to Lowe’s for $31. I have 4 of the sure cans for 2 years and it is still good.

Glad that Target (Scepter/Ameri-gas) design worked for you so far Harry. Terrible results for me:

1. Just wait til cold weather. Unless you store the thing a heated indoor garage, it’s going to contract/shivel dramatically. (comically at first, until it cracks!) And then if heat or direct sun ever gets on it, you literally have a potential “KA-BOOM” scenario on your hands. Have no idea how this design passed the most rudimentary of common sense safety tests. I hate it for this reason alone.

2. But wait, there’s more. For my two vehicles, that neck is TOO SHORT! (insanity) Not enough length to get from the can to down in the in-take on my Montana/Venture van. As such, I have to use a blasted low-volume funnel….. think splash potential.

3. Ever try using yours yet to fill your lawn mower gas tank? I also have a one-gallon version…. You have to put the nozzle down into the tank….. and it’s so wide that guess what, you can’t see inside to have the slightest idea (other than by sound) if you’re getting close to full…. It’s even worse for chain saw openings.

Result — infinitely greater splash potential than even the previous dud designs. IDIOTS who designed these things. (Helps me understand why many friends could vote for the current POTUS — hatred of EPA utter lack of common sense.)

Anyway, glad it’s worked out for you, but I would NEVER recommend it to anyone else. (Walmart is all but giving them away now — for a reason. They’re VERY hard to use, and EXTREMELY dangerous. Major law-suit waiting to happen. IMHO)

Like I said, the Target one (or any other) is not the all in one solution and neither am I saying it is the best can ever. You cannot use the Target one for movers and saws certainly. Its only for filling up cars. For movers and saws I have both the Costco version of the sceptre which needs the spring to be twisted off (yes, needs to be broken to work good) as well as the Ezpour.
Too short neck yes, but still works best for me for the cars over all the others that are out there in this price range and I have tried a few of them. I have not tried the more expensive 20+ cans so I cannot comment about those.

They haven’t has 4x in a while, but a month or so ago they had 3x on VGCs. Since these are MC, be sure to liquidate them quickly before they get hacked.

Are these cards highly prone to theft/fraud?

Thanks much, Chuck, for the advance notice. The recent 3x on the VGC indeed was much better, yet this is welcome too, especially with the escalation in the price of gas. Buying just two $500 MC’s will save me $38+ at Martin’s. (that’s $2.00 x 25 gallons less cost of the cards. ) Last I checked, there’s still no limit on cents off per gallon at the Martin’s fuel centers.

Thanks DoC.
Will work well to MS my WF Propel card.

Are these ones difficult to cash out at Walmart with MO’s?

Not difficult, just more annoying than VGC. Make sure to hit cancel after swiping so it goes through as pin debit and not signature credit

Hello, can you give more details possibly? I didn’t know you can use them at Walmart. Only place left in PA that I know works is Giant itself. Turkey stopped selling MO not too long ago. Wanna see my other options if you know any. I thanks!

Ah yes I remember this annoying process now that you mention it. So I should hit the cancel button immediately after swiping the card? or am I supposed to wait for something to show up on the screen before hitting cancel?

Again, worth posting that these have a high rate of being hacked. So buy at your own risk.

Is this even true anymore?

Agreed. Sounds like a blown out of proportion rumor to me. There have been no DPs other than people saying to “be careful” in recent months. I’ve personally never had an issue.

>There have been no DPs other than people saying to “be careful” in recent months

Probably because we all avoid them 🙂

Out of curiosity, what happened when people had issues with their cards being hacked? Did the GC company refund them?

Eventually. As I recall, it was a painful process, and it took months to get my money back.

No more 35 gallons? I used to bring my car, my wife’s car and a few 5 gallon gas jugs and max out the 35 gallons for free. When did this change?

I think it’s YMMV. Been 20 gal. $1.50 max for a long time in my S&S area, you may be lucky and still have the more liberal limits in your area.

Are these unloadable at FD or Dollar General for Serve? Mine are still alive.

how do you unload MC Gift card apart from regular spend which is a PITA?

FD works for me. I haven’t found a DG that does Serve loads, but there are many more FDs than DGs in these parts. FDs are YMMV. I have my regular stores that I use. When they see me in line, they know what I’m there for.

My mastercard fuel rewards from my grocery purchases all just posted today!

Always like MCGC that can load onto BB/Serve online without headache.

Aren’t those limited to $200/day and $1K/month?.

That is for online loads, not in-store “cash” reloads. In-store limits are higher.

where do you load serve in store?

I know the limits for the store. Jason mentioned online in his post. I remember either it was him or someone mentioning earlier with the process of how to do it online.

I thought you could only use an AMEX debit card for online serve/Bb load and it’s been that way for a long time?

I got MCGC based on your previous posts on serve threads. I tried linking a MCGC on the Serve site and get the error message

“We’re sorry, we are unable to link your debit card. Please call the number on the back of your debit card for additional information.”

I registered the MCGC online and it has the same name and address as the serve card. Please help.

Worth noting/repeating: The MCs in No. Virginia are issued by USBank, which means that each card has a unique PIN, printed on insert within the card package (as opposed to last-4 PINs used by Meta and others).

Thanks for the information. I would have assumed PIN to be last 4 if I didn’t see your post. I don’t do MS with Mastercard, so was good to know. Thanks!!

Why can’t the “other” Giant have these promos…

Check your receipt. I bought three different versions of MC GCs and got 2000 points, not 3000. Guessing on of the GC types wasn’t properly coded in the system. Points manually added by customer service. Also, remember Discover is 5X on supermarkets this quarter

The celebrate version didn’t work for me this early morning. So they had to manually adjust points.

Which versions did you buy? I bought the variable Purple Present and the variable Blue card that says “Gift Card” this morning. The purple presents got points but the other didn’t.

Thanks for the heads up. I too had to talk to customer service to get the full points.

Next will be the Amex promo and it will be july 1st week before u see MC or VGC again with 3X/4X (based on last year pattern). So load up if u can now.
