Update 6/24/23: Code SUMMER is working again.

Update 6/13/23: Code is working now

The Offer

Direct Link to offer (contains our affiliate – you might want to use a shopping portal instead)

  • Giftcards.com is offering a 10% discount in virtual Visa gift cards when you use promo code SUMMER23 or SUMMER or YAYSUMMER.

The Fine Print

  • Valid 06/09/2023 – 06/17/2023 for 10% off the purchase of up to $1500 worth of Visa Virtual Gift Accounts from Giftcards.com while supplies last maximum value $60.00.
  • Excludes Giftcards.com for Business orders.
  • Promo code SUMMER23 is a one-time use code and can not be combined with other offers.

Our Verdict

This is the same deal as what we saw last week, and they’ve now increased the discount from 5% off to 10% off. I’m still seeing the same $100 denomination limit. You can get up  to $60 off in single checkout which would be six $100 virtual Visa gift cards. (I’m not sure what the $1,500 limit in the fine print refers to.)

At 5% this wasn’t too interesting since it didn’t fully offset  the $5.95 fee. Now that it’s 10% it can make more sense for someone with a liquidation method. You’ll earn $4.05 per Visa card purchased, or $24.30 for six.

Stack with a shopping portal for up to 2.1% back. Always check Capital One Shopping separately in the app and online since different people see differing numbers with them. I’m seeing the SUMMER promo code mentioned on shopping portals. It’s only showing 5% at time of this writing, and it will presumably update to 10% soon. And check your Citi Merchant Offers for an additional 1.5% back offer.

  • I just tried to use 1 of these to pay part of my Fios bill and it was declined. I called to complain and was directed to the terms that show that it’s not allowed to be “used for purchases where recurring payments may occur, such as subscriptions, memberships, rentals, etc.”

I countered that this was a “one time” payment and not “recurring” but they claimed that “recurring” and “bill” means the same thing.

Anyway, have any of you tried to use these to make an insurance payment? My insurance is not currently due so I am unable to test it myself.

What are you all using these gc for?

      • That’s good to know that it works for Geico as I figured that it would. BTW, I tried the same eGC this morning to pay part of my Fios bill and the payment went through fine. It’s always worth it to try things multiple times.

  • Several of my cards from a couple years ago got hit with a couple $4.95 dormancy fees. Keep track of old cards. Make sure you use all the balance.

  • Has anyone tried using PayPal to check out at giftcards.com, with a BofA Cash Rewards card? I’m wondering if it counts as Online Shopping when going through PayPal (even if it doesn’t when not going through PayPal; though, has anyone tried that recently? possibly it codes differently now).

    • In my experience PayPal doesn’t change the merchant code, so it would still be POI Funding Transactions (as are all Blackhawk Network gift cards now, I believe) which are excluded from BofA’s Online Shopping category. But I’d love to be proven wrong.

        • I was not aware of that. I’ve used PayPal a lot and have never seen it change the MCC.

      • Paypal absolutely does.
Long but not too long ago when there was paypal key, I purchased giftcard (not giftcards.com but a retailer gift card) which I have purchased previously too. Using paypal key, the gift card purchase was categorized as cash advance which never did before using same Chase credit card. Got charged cash advace fee too, which got waived at end.

  • is anyone able to actually use these to purchase gift cards elsewhere? i’ve tried every avenue possible (including raise which worked in the past) and it’s declining left and right. did giftcards.com change what they allow to be purchased with these cards?! (i have $2k worth of these cards that i’m trying to convert to pretty much anything else at this point…advice would be appreciated)

    • I can hardly ever get them to even work on legitimate purchases, let alone gift card purchases. Maybe 50% of the time. I’ve given up on gift cards.com

      • yea i just tried adding money on my ezpass and even that got declined 🙁

where can i even use these giftcards?

  • if there is anyone spying for giftcards.com in this forum, express my greatest condolences to company for killing 10% on 250$.

  • $100 too much work to turn it into something physical like Walmart/Costco GC. I guess you can use them online to pay bills, but there is only so much bill I have to pay.

  • I haven’t done this since MSing status on AA this summer. Obviously AA portal is out. Does Rakuten actually pay out 2% for this as the portal shows ? Any gotchas?

    • The ‘gotcha’ is that it’s technically only 1.876% back since you don’t get 2% for the activation fee.
      0.02 x ($100 – $10) / ($100 – $10 + $5.95) = 0.01876
And as always been the case, you cannot cash out right away; Rakuten pays out once every quarter so the next payout is in August. Still better than other cash back portals that have trouble tracking and/or lower payouts imo.

    • I haven’t had problems with TopCashback tracking.
It tracked on two purchases I made on June 9 and June 10 earlier this month.

  • $250 was annoying. Now $100 is more annoying. I love free $ but I not sure I will do it. Probably but will sleep on it.

    • I’m not wasting my time anymore. If they bring back to 250, I’ll jump back in, but this is too much work for a tiny bit of savings.

          • Yeah, but I was admonished before that the 2% for using Citi DC doesn’t count since if you use the DC you are already getting 2%.

        • I calculated it as 4.05% savings.

          For 2x $100,

          $8.10 = $20 – $11.90 (fee)
          $8.10 ÷ $200 = 0.0405

If you include the TopCashback cashback of $3.78,
          then it is ($8.10 + $3.78) = 0.0594

          TopCashback 2.1% is on $190

          • Ya I agree with you. Only about 6% if portal tracks. I’ve generally had good luck with portal tracking but I don’t like to depend on it to get a good deal.

In the past with 10% $250 I would stockpile a decent amount to use over a couple months. But with this deal I only use it if I have any bills to pay to burn up immediately. Too much hassle to track otherwise to save literally a few dollars. $100 even sucks to use for federal taxes since debit cards have a flat fee which worked a lot better for $250.

            • I bought $400 in total.
              I used $200 organically.
The remaining $200 is for upcoming semi-annual dental exam in July.

  •  Chuck YAYSUMMER is back too. It’s a banner on Rakuten with headline:

Brought Back for a Limited Time by Popular Demand: 10% off Up to $1500 Worth of Visa® Virtual Gift Accounts. + 2.0% Cash Back
    Code: YAYSUMMER
    Expires 6/29/2023

  • Tried on 06/25, says code not valid for this cart for all three codes. I had 6 of the $250 visa GCs in my cart at the time.

  • check your capital one shopping account my friends! looks like they claw back at least 50% of the cash back I have earned from giftcards.com !!! unbelievable!!!

    • From this June round or from the March round? I’m not seeing it for the June round…

      • For what I earned from Dec 2022 to Mar 2023. Some of the credits are “cancelled” and the other credits are “adjusted”. will not use the capital one shopping anymore if they are not going to restore them… who knows what I earn today will be gone months later!!!

  • What worked for me is to take the virtual Visa card to walmart.com and buy a physical Walmart card, even up. Wally shipped it by FedEx, got it in two days.

      • TBH, it does not help at all. He does not need physical Walmart card. Simply add the vgc to walmart app and use walmart pay at checkout.

    • I am wary of buying physical gifts that ship by FedEx.

Anybody with a brain knows what is being shipping in a 6×9 padded envelope.

One of my orders a few years back went missing.

I would worry most about package that shows delivered but actually wasn’t.

  • No Capone for me on mobile, 2% on web, same as tcp and rakuten. I think I’ll pass.

  • These cards work at less and less places. Raise.com no longer works to drain these for discounted merchant gc’s despite the terms saying they can be used anywhere Visa is accepted….hmm..

Not worth the hassle to save $5.

  • Hi, I am a first time Giftcards.com user. I just bought a VISA 100 $ eGift card. Typically, when do we receive the link for activate the card? I didn’t get anything, not even a confirmation email. Thanks!

    • hashedCelery For repeat users, the cards normally arrive within a few minutes. However, since it’s your very first time, things are going to be different. Did you create an account? If so, log in to check order status. It’s possible that your order was cancelled. If your order has not been cancelled and your credit card has been charged, manual approval may be required. That won’t happen until Monday, unfortunately.

      • Yes just checking my orders lisr RM , my order was cancelled. Don’t know why. What to do to get my orders not to cancel?

        • hashedCelery It’s a mystery wrapped inside an enigma. Some people are not able to buy anything from any BHN–owned site because their orders are always cancelled. Something about your order triggered their fraud detection system. Try another credit card. Try a card with a different billing address if you have access to one. Try having a relative place the order with their card if possible. Try placing the order using a different IP address (from work or using your phone without being connected to WiFi). Hopefully one of these options will work.

    • If you don’t receive anything (notification/GC) within 15 minutes that’s generally odd. The GC delivery takes time but the confirmation email should come ASAP

  • This deal is back with promo code summer. Not sure for how long but it’s advertised on their front page and working right now.

  • Why does the fees on the product page say $4.95 for $75-$150 VGC, but the fee is charged $5.95 for $100 card?

    • You’re looking at the wrong spot in the table. You need to look lower in the table.

      Virtual Visa Account $10.00 – $250.00 $5.95

I’m pretty sure you are looking at the row that is for physical cards. Note that the table is a combined fee schedule for multiple product lines in one table.

      Visa or Mastercard $10.00 – $74.99 $2.95
      $75.00 – $149.99 $4.95
      $150.00 – $250 $5.95

      That is for physical cards.

    • Agree, shows code used too many times now. 12 of 13 orders tracked on CapitalOne Shopping and 4 of 4 orders tracked on CapitalOne (Merchant) Offers. Liquidated for CA estimated taxes, not a bad round.

  • Just fyi, I previously used the Citi Merchant offer for 1.5% back from Giftcards.com but it never worked with these VGC deals, only with third-party cards. However I happened to use a Citi card on this deal and had the offered clipped and I see that it did give the 1.5% back this time. Considering that Giftcards.com now offers other payment methods like PayPal and digital wallet maybe something changed in their system with regards to how billing/payments are processed.

  • Why does the fees on the product page say $4.95 for $75-$150 VGC, but the fee is charged $5.95 for $100 card?

    • I think you’re looking in the wrong spot. This is virtual card. The fees you’re quoting seem to be for non-virtual.

      • I was on the order page for the virtual card. Have you actually looked at it? Click on the fees “?”

        • Yes. Have YOU actually looked at it? I’m looking at it right now. You need to look lower in the table.

          Virtual Visa Account $10.00 – $250.00 $5.95

I’m pretty sure you are looking at the row that is for physical cards. Note that the table is a combined fee schedule for multiple product lines in one table.

          Visa or Mastercard $10.00 – $74.99 $2.95
          $75.00 – $149.99 $4.95
          $150.00 – $250 $5.95

  • I guess I need to call the issuing bank of these cards. One of my cards no longer works at all, and doesn’t allow me to check the balance. Has this happened to anyone? How long does it usually take to resolve?

    • Call the support number and check the balance and transactions using the card number. As for the resolution, takes at least a few weeks, if at all. Good luck. If they do not help at first try going through the BBB route that sometimes help.

    • Update for the interested: I’m just stupid. I ended up noting down the security code of my card wrong, my card is actually fine, I hadn’t noticed because I just had the numbers in the wrong order.

  • Any experience with gocashback out there? I can’t find much about them but they have some higher rates. I saw some people posting on SD about them and when I search on Google I only see some crappy blog posts that are clearly trying to get referrals.

    • I used them in March 2023 for giftcards.com on gocashback. However, when I tried to cash out, I was rejected due to some order verification issues and they asked me verify a bunch of orders in the past (some of them are in 2020). I sent back the required info but they haven’t responded. I feel that I won’t risk placing more orders on Gocashback.com due to this issue. I will stick with CapitalOne for 2.5%

    • I have used portals for a decade probably close to upper five figures in cash back and GoCashBack is outright the only one that has given me major issues. I started using them for Giftcards.com last summer. They paid out in November but did make me provide receipts for transactions (it was about $80 in cashback). I used them some for purchases in November on a somewhat grander scale and was due about $260 cashback. After five months of waiting (and all other portals I used for giftcards.com having long paid out) I asked them the status. They said the vendor hadn’t paid and to be patient. I followed up again twice in early June with no response. Then went the BBB route. They posted $60 (of the $260) as payable and I was able to cash out but nothing more. Deciding on next steps if any for the remaining $200. I have heard a few other folks complain about them recently to on other deals (not giftcards.com). I don’t know if I was just unlucky or they are just c–p but I certainly won’t be using them again.

    • For anyone going this route, maybe don’t do all of your transactions consecutively.

I successfully purchased four $100 Costco shop cards, but the 5th and 6th purchases were rejected.

      • Same here. I was told Costco only lets you buy so many gift cards in a 48hr period but close to a week later they have been cancelled still and they say now that they don’t take VCG despite taking them for my first 4 orders.

    • randomguy Every time I try to buy Costco shop cards online with VGC, it gets cancelled. Do you register the cards before hand? And do you input the card number when checking out or add it to your account before hand? Thanks

      • I always register the cards first. And input the card number at checkout. Sometimes I hit the save to account button, sometimes not.

  • Did the capital one routine with 4% cash back
Did 6 $100 cards. Total haul should be about a $44 value

    • It did go down but I’m still seeing 2.5% cash back if you search for giftcards.com on the app.

  • So does “Excludes Giftcards.com for Business orders.” mean i can’t use Chase Ink Cash?

    • quickly – immediately, max one-two days. if you wouldn’t see – request missed payment in Rakuten. i found that Rakuten didn’t pay and requested. got $50+

    • LOL! I feel you! That’s why I hesitate using cap one shopping unless if the extra % is a lot or more than half the other shopping portals.

  • eVGC are notoriously hard to liquidate. I buy a few and use them to buy discounted GC’s on Raise, maximizing discounts on merchant GC’s there that I know I will use.

    • My transaction on raise did not go through. Same for TCB gc, and even fluz. Only had success with slide and amazon. Slide halted my account after trying to add the 3rd eVGC.

      • FWIW, Slide agent said my account will get locked again if I try to use a prepaid card. Also, not to place orders or load money within 15-20 min of each other and not have more than 3 payment cards loaded at a given time. So, I did a lot of things wrong.

        • I liquidated two cards on slides without problem.

According to @Poppers, we probably should just liquidate two cards (load money and then wait for a few hours before making a purchase) every a few days on slide.

  • I have an easy way to liquidate these (taxes, medical bills, utilities) so I’m trying to buy as many as I can.

It looks like there’s a hard limit to the number of cards you can buy per day. I don’t know for sure, but I think this limit is per rolling 24 hours. I bought $1800 on June 10th and I couldn’t buy any more. I bought another $1800 today and was capped again. I’m purchasing through the capital one shopping app and have been receiving confirmation of my 4% back (we’ll see if capital one actually pays out). I’ll have to try again tomorrow after the 24 hour period has passed.

    • Hi! How long before you received the confirmation/s or email from Capital One Shopping that the transaction tracked successfully and is pending? It’s almost 24 hours now since my last transaction and I’m worried it’s not going to track due to some capitaloneshopping.com website accessibility issues I noticed around the time I used the CapOne Shopping app.

      • It took two days. A purchase I made in the 11th didn’t post until the 13th.

But based on previous DPs, don’t consider the capital one cash back earned through the portal yours until you’ve redeemed it. There’s DPs of C1 denying your ability to cash out after the fact. I’m only considering the promo code + any cash back earned with my credit card.

        • Thanks, Dylan ! Whew, finally got the pending email today :D! So mine took about 1.5 days to get the pending/tracking email confirmation.

I do hope these 2 transactions payout, as each was $21. Sucks that they removed Walmart as a cash-out option, but at this point I’m just happy these tracked.

      • Used the Capital One Shopping app on June 11 and it finally tracked today (June 14). I would just be patient because even if you contact support they will just tell you to contact them again after 30 days.

        • Thank you for the response, Queue_Underflow ! It finally tracked today :D!!! So for others’ reference, I placed my order June 13 12.30am CT, and got the tracking confirmation email June 14 1.30pm CT! It tracked at 4% of $540 = $21.60. I’m glad the website glitches at the time didn’t affect my cash back :)!

  • Bought $100 * 6 = $600. I added CapitalOne credit card offer (4% – up to $1500 (?) per month!!!) and Rakuten (1% – check Rakuten, recently found that they did get $50+, requested and got!!!). Of course, 1.5% credit card cashback. As result, should get almost 10%.
Will try to pay Citi master credit card by gift Master card.
I was able to pay Amex Macys credit card by gift card in store.

  • around 5% discount including fees(100-10+5.95).these people are testing us to see what bait we bite to.

    • Nope, and app purchases never tracked for me in March either. Eventually got the cashback to credit after submitting claims with Capital One Shopping 30 days after purchase.

        • Thank you for sharing your experience here! Did it take more than 24 hours?

My last successful giftcards.com transaction through the app (on Jun 9), it took around 16 hours to track. But as I’ve mentioned in my earlier comment today, when I placed another order through the app at 12.30am CT today (Jun 13), their website was not accessible during that time, so I’m worried that might affect the transaction not tracking :(.

So still waiting. I hope it tracks soon! Gonna wait until after 24 hours, then I’m thinking of reaching out to their help email.

      • Negative experience with Capital One Shopping app portal this time. Didn’t track in June just like in March. I sent a request after 30 days like before, but they declined to credit the cashback this time citing that Capital One did not get credit because “Capital One Shopping did not gain attribution for your order due to navigating away from the activated page prior to completing your online order” for ALL of my transactions.

I went directly from the Capital One shopping app to GC.com to place each order. I’m at a loss why the shopping app just never works for me. Will not use the app again.

    • Did a transaction around 12.30am CT today on the Capital One Shopping Android App. Hasn’t tracked yet. BUT I also noticed that around that time, their website was having issues 🙁 so I’m worried that it might not track because of that. I hope it tracks soon. I think if it doesn’t track after 24 hours, I will contact their help email.

  • They have definitely restricted Virtual VGCs recently. I was able to add them to PayPal for the cards I purchased in March 2023 but had no luck this time. Any ideas where these cards can be used? Tried Costco.com but no luck

  • I like the mastercard VGCs since I can use them to pay my citi CC balances. With the Visa ones, that doesn’t work. Just tested it again to confirm. I will use these Visa ones for utilities but $600 is enough for that. I will stop there unless there is a really good cash back portal offer available to stack with it.

      • I’ve done it tons of times recently, so definitely still works for certain kinds of mastercard vgcs. However, the ones that I know that work are the ones from Swagbucks/Mypoints/etc. I get a tons of those w/ Buy SB.

      • Only works with Citi. You have to use the pay by phone option and follow the prompts to make a payment by debit card.

    • I have a few master gc’s from swagbucks. Do I have to call Citi to make a payment using the card or is there any online option to do that?

        • Can be done online via live chat but phone is easier as you don’t have to deal with a human.

        • I tried every type of Visa or MC gift cards, never worked. Always got “sorry we can’t process your payment this time …”, I hand up before it connects me to a human. Just tried MC from Office Depot again, still no go. Did you use the same MC from Office Depot?

          • All the easily abusable ones are long gone from working. The only ones that have worked for me in the past couple years are rebate/reward style ones. Like Swagbucks, Topcashback, Mobil 1 rebates, etc.

    • UPDATE: I was able to load Winco gift cards. I’m not sure what I had messed up previously. Note that you can only reload each Wincod giftcard once every 24 hours.

  • Was able to do three transactions for $600 each for a total of $1800. The fourth transaction fails to process on giftcards.com.

  • Nice that giftcards.com accepts PayPal now, so you can use the PayPal Mastercard for 3% back.

    • I’d be careful purchasing any giftcard via paypal.
When paypal key was a thing, in couple instances, using paypal key to get gift card was coded as cash advance for couple of websites. I never used it on giftcards.com, so YMMV.

      • I’ll be honest, I got a little nervous when PayPal emailed me an itemized receipt. But the charge cleared tonight as a regular purchase with 3% cash back.

  • Haha! Nobody bought at 5% offer, so they increased to 10%

With a 3% card, the net saving is about 7%. I’ll take 7% for Costco gas.

  • I see the Citi merchant offer but upon adding it does not show as enrolled after refreshing the page. The offer did work at the end of 2022, but I’m not optimistic now based on these shenanigans.

    • I was and to place 2nd order and received gift cards.

Same name and address but different credit card. Didn’t even try same credit card.

  • I purchased 7 of $200 last year in December and used them to purchase Costco shopcard online. this time isn’t that good but still free money.

    $200.00
    Card Fee: $5.95
    Shipping & Handling : $0.00
    Subtotal: $205.95
    Promo Code: $-20.00
    Total: $185.95

  • Anyone unable to get the promo code to apply? I’ve tried on both PC and mobile, all three promo codes no luck.

    • Same problem here. Did find a 4 percent back on my Capital one Shopping and a 3 percent back using my Capital One Savor card.

Sadly, just isn’t working for me. I’ll try later.

    • I consider it pretty much limited to amazon gift card reloads imo. You might get lucky on a few other online checkouts.

    • Pay utilities, insurance, etc. With summer I have ridiculous water bills and I can pay more than owed balance.

    • hotwheels Tax payments, medical bills, organic spend for online purchases. Some brick and mortar stores will enter the number manually if you ask nicely (hairdressers, medical and dental offices). I’ve also had some success with manual entry at restaurants if I place a large order (card not present incurs a larger processing fee for them, so they will only do it on a larger purchase).

  • The Citi Merchant Offer’s Terms of Use:

Earn when you shop online with your linked card at GiftCards.com. Limit 2 redemptions per cardholder for duration of offer. […] ***Offer not valid for gift card purchases.***

I assume this is boilerplate for all their offers and this will work just fine for most people, but if you do end up having to contact Citi to apply the offer you might get some pushback.

    • My experience last year was Giftcards.com makes both a pending charge and then a real charge. The Citi offer counts that as 2 charges. If you now make another purchase, expect it to not earn the Citi offer unless they fixed this.

    • I just read the mice print again with the offer that came with my new card and it says clearly no cash advances or balance transfers and no gift cards, monetary equivalents blah blah is not mentioned so I’m in for $600. Hope I’m right!

  • Cost of 6 x $100 cards after fees: $575.50
Capital One cashback via app (4%): -$23.02
BofA Online category cashback (3%): -$17.27
    Final cost: $535.21
    Total savings: $64.79

    • I thought we need to use the Cap One card for the Capital One portal? This is what I see on clicking the redeem option “If you made a Qualifying Offer Purchase using the offer link and an eligible Capital One credit card, you’ll see your statement credit within 3 billing cycles.”

      • There are two Cap 1 portals. One which requires the C1 card, and Capital One Shopping, where you can use any card. I don’t have a Cap 1 card. My Cap 1 shopping portal only shows 1.5%

      • Capital One Offers requires that you have a Capital One card for the login, but you don’t actually have to use it for the purchase. I can confirm because I did an order last night with PayPal Mastercard that tracked this morning. Capital One Shopping doesn’t require a Capital One card at all.

    • C1 portal didn’t track for my last 4 purchases on GC.com a few weeks ago. Missing about $50 worth. Very hit or miss.

  • Is this a virtual gift card? Meaning we will not receive a physical gift card? Is my understanding correct?

  • Does vgc purchase on giftcards.com count towards spending requirement for Amex and Chase? Does anyone know?
