The Offer

The Fine Print

Our Verdict

Should work for unlimited uses. Be sure to use a credit card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases or use Chase Freedom this quarter for 5% back. Similar deal available at Kroger as well.

Hat tip to reader B.

I just bought 5 x $100 and got 6000 fuel points or 12x instead of 4x. Did you already have some? I hope they don’t claw this back as I can use all of mine. What will you do with 22000? Find some friends and split it with them for a profit? Gotta think of an angle in the next few days if it continues.

There’s actually two separate coupons to be clipped: The red “4X on Gift Cards” EXCLUDES HT, Visa and MC (click on “More Info” to see). The other coupon, which pictures the V/MCs is for “When You Buy A $25, $50, Or $100 Mastercard® Or Visa® Gift Card. *Excludes Variable Load Gift Cards.” Probably want to clip BOTH coupons.

Personally, doing cards for less than $500 just doesn’t make sense for me, where there’s not a direct discount on the purchase fee (like Safeway).

I just went and bought the gift cards…but I only got 2x in fuel points. Not 4x! Called customer service and they fixed it for me.

BE SURE YOU ‘CLIP’ THE COUPON on your Harris Teeter online e-vic account. Or you’ll have the same problem. This info should be added to the post  William Charles

This isn’t worth doing in my opinion…
10x $100 visa/mc prepaid cards + $5 activation fee = $1050
Rewards 1000 fuel points ($1/gallon savings, max 35 gallons)
My car’s tank is 12 gallons ($12 max savings)
$1050-$12 = $1038 ($3.80 cost per prepaid card)

Even if you use all 35 gallons and save $35, you’re still paying $1.50/card.

yer mathing is bit lacking. You’re missing the point about 4x Point promo. So for 10 cards, that 4000 points. On your tank, that covers the gift card costs. Pick up a couple jerry cans, and save another $40-80. Tack on a credit card rewards, add another $30-60.

I’ll probably stick with Giant/FR for a $1.55 on 20 gallons, but good to have options.

My math was wrong. Here it is fixed:

10x$100 Visa/MC cards = $1,000
$6 x 10 activation fee = $60
Chase 5x cashback (redeemed for travel with CSR card 7.5x) = $53/$79.50
4000 gas reward points = 4 transactions of gas, up to 35 gallons each = max gas savings of $140
Max profit = $159.50

However, my car’s tank is only 12 gallons, changing the math to:
4000 gas reward points = 4 transactions of gas, up to 12 gallons each = gas savings of $48
Profit = $67.50

Yeah it’s really for people that max on the 35 gallons. Most people just buy a can or two

2x$500 Visa/MC cards = $1,000
$6 x 2 activation fee = $12
Chase 5x cashback (redeemed for travel with CSR card 7.5x) = $51/$76
1000 gas reward points = 1 transaction of gas, up to 35 gallons = max gas savings $35
Max profit = $99

Adjusted for 12 gallons = gas savings of $12
Adjusted Max Profit = $76

To me, just buying a normal $500 variable load is still the better deal for most normal people who don’t have a special need for exorbitant amounts of gas.

The deal is not valid on variable load cards.

I know. My math does not include the 4x bonus. Unless you are saying that you get 0 points for buying variable load. I was assuming you get the normal 1x points. If that is incorrect, then for the 12 gallon tank, just subtract another $12 for an adjusted max profit of $64.

as usual, excludes variable loads

Works on variables? Or is that not in the ad?
