Chase ‘Paper’ Apps (DocuSign) Still Bypassing 5/24

Update: We now have some datapoints that show these new DocuSign applications are still bypass 5/24. Good news for once, yay! Datapoints: 1, 2, 3, 4,. Share yours in the comments below.

Original post: One of the ways to bypass the Chase 5/24 rule has been to apply using a paper application via a business relationship manager. Reader Erik left a comment stating that June 1st was the last day for these paper applications and they would be starting a new process with e-mail applications and DocuSign on June 4th. I didn’t think too much of it but then yesterday I saw a report on reddit stating something similar (and another here). It isn’t 100% clear if this new process still bypasses the 5/24 rule or not, although at least one datapoint suggests it might not. We did see the ‘selected offers for you’ method temporarily stop working as well, so it’s possible something similar might happen here as well.

In my quick first scan my brain wanted to see “Has Chase ended 5/24”. A boy can dream.

With regards to DocuSign – a little divergent but the generic signature option for DocuSign applications is the way that Wells Fargo fiasco happen, with out some form of 2-part authentication (i.e.SMS Pin or application initiated from e-mail to address on file).

The reason I say it is an issue is I recently had an credit application DocuSign’d for me by a representative, he flew through the app signed for me and then gave me a printout with my generic signature. No HP involved just a SP and I could have been on the hook for $10k+ and would have only known after receiving the first statement and might have had a hard proving that it wasnt me who DocuSigned that app.

You may be on to something here…..I applied and was approved for the WF CashWise credit card (wanted cell phone insurance). But, when I received the card I called to activate and was told the card was not valid and redirected to Lending Services who said they needed to verify it was really me who applied. They did this by sending a text message to my phone and I had to read back a number in the text. The card was then made valid.

It appears that for internal control purposes these banks need to verify that the application was really from you and not a Banker trying to make a quota.

The “Wells Fargo fiasco” was Wells Fargo employees opening accounts without customer knowledge, not in any way similar to a generic e-signature from docusign or any other reputable provider which provides a complete audit trail far beyond what can be verified through a paper process. While I understand the concerns in general with providing personal identification, I believe the electronic method to provide a more secure and audit-able approach. The WF reference here is misleading and uninformed

I went in yesterday and did the Docusign for the Ink Unlimited. Way past 5/24, but got approved on my last paper app. Will post here when my application goes through.

Did you get the response from the Docusign application?

I applied on 5/24 (no pun intended) for a CIU using a paper app and BRM. I was approved and I’m over 5/24. I’m also CPC but I doubt that was a factor.

When I applied for CIP in April it was submitted over email. No faxing or anything. Still bypassed 5/24

I would like to report a DP
On the last week of May, I went into a branch and applied with a BRM.
She informed me that applying through a BRM the application bypasses the 5/24 rule.
Paper app was filled and submitted.
Today 6/6 I get an email from experian that chase pulled my file.
Called the chase app number to check status and the prompt informed me that I had been approved for 5K (the limit that I requested).
Was denied three weeks prior for being over 5/24.
I applied for CIP this time, same as last time.
Wanted a concise DP, so applied for the same card, twice.
Maybe I applied when the new rule was not implemented, or maybe I got lucky. Only God knows.
Also, my credit was pulled today (6/6). So, shouldn’t the new rule be in effect right now.
Questions, questions.
Thought you should all know.

Can you ask was it paper app or DocuSign ? How many new cards you got within 24 months? thanks

Bad news here. Applied for the CIP end of May but they didn’t do the credit pull until 6/4. Spoke to a rep today that said I could not be approved due to too many new accounts. I offered to reallocate credit from other cards but he said that wasn’t an option.

I’m somewhere north of 20/24, but he seemed especially interested in the 5 new accounts in the last 6 months. He never specifically said anything about more than 5 accounts or 24 months, so hard to tell if it was a hard decline on that. Planning to recon when I get out of work.

John

Did you get a chance to recon?

JF
JF

I called to recon, but they still denied me based on too many recent accounts and they said I have balances on too many cards (I only have a balance showing on a couple cards but pay them off every month).

I tried to play dumb and asked if I could prove all balances were paid off would that help, but the rep said I’d need to speak with the original reviewer and he wasn’t in that day. I guess the specialty lending department that reviews the app has to also make the final decision on a recon.

Did you apply via PAPER app or DOCUSIGN?

JF
JF

I applied via paper app, didn’t do Docusign. I have a lot of new accounts but I only applied because I’d seen DP’s of people getting approved with 20+/24. Hard to tell if I got denied for 5/24 or just because I have more new accounts than the rep could approve.

A applied almost a month ago and still no hard pull or anything. Talked to BDM and says they’ve still making there descision.
