Our Verdict

Don’t forget you can go through a portal as the points are actually sold through Points.com, for example Topcashback is offering 2.5% cash back on these purchases. You’ll also earn credit card rewards points as normal so your cost basis is under 0.5¢. Personally I don’t think Hilton points are worth this much, so I’ll be avoiding this sale but can be good value for some people. We talk about point valuations and issues with people overvaluing points in this post. I’d recommend only purchasing points if you have a specific redemption in mind as Hilton is known for devaluing points with no notice.

Does this count as Hilton spend for the Hilton credit cards and also towards MSR?

Never mind – even assuming it does and I get the 5th night free for booking with points I’m still better off paying directly for the week I’m planning.

you should go back to coaching the redskins. If you can buy for .005 and use at .01 you are doing well.

The Hilton Ascend earns 6x back at grocery stores. Grocery stores sell a special something that has a purchase fee. Hint hint.

I thought the folks at American Express frowned when trying to scale these purchases?

I’ve read not to rely on them to get your SUB… but once that is passed the worst that would happen is they cancel your card or don’t give you points for that transaction.

I do not work for Hilton but really love Hilton. As a diamond with 4 kids I show up at a property and they give me the biggest room they have along with free breakfast. Not to mention I can accumulate about 100k HH points for free per month with the ascend card Ill take and use what they are offering

Can you explain how you get 100k a month?

If you put hotel spend on it the multipliers are crazy as I believe they stack so a dollar spent at Hilton gets up to 34x points (7-14x card, 20x diamond)? You get lesser multiplier elsewhere but once you’ve reached diamond status I’d think you’d be better off with a different card if you have significant monthly spend.

Just checked the Lodi Hampton Inn for a few random days in July and August, best rates around $150/night. So 30K points a night isn’t a bad deal.

They just devalued to ~0.35 cents/point (at least my past bookings that I got a 0.55 average out is now go for that..), so screw that.

Hilton program is sort of a scam… by the time you accumulate enough points for any meaningful redemption you’ll get hit by a devaluation… it’s like chasing a moving target that runs faster than you.
