Is there a secret maxing these out/hitting the highest tier bonus? Like buying GCs or something?

Raise worked on Alaska before. Dont know now

Raise.com also counts as an Online Purchase for BoA Cash Rewards, so if you set your 3% cat to Online Purchases you’ll get 5.25% back at raise using your cash rewards card.

VGCs from Giftcards.com work.

Does it work on virtual vgc or only physical?

Tim
Tim

In the past I’ve only tried physical. I’m going to try a virtual one this time though, but won’t know for a while if it worked or not. There’s no language that excludes virtual gift cards, so I don’t know why it wouldn’t work just the same though.

DP update: Virtual Visas on GC.com tracked on Alaska portal.

I know this isn’t a solution for everyone, but I basically live out of airbnbs, so they’re as good as cash for me. Usually I can find somewhere like Staples selling airbnb GCs and I can max all of these out.

Would love to read your blog and see your photos.

The Staples terms say the portals don’t work for gift cards. I was hoping they would anyway, but I bought a $50 gift card on October 31st and haven’t been awarded any points. I also just bought $1200 of airbnb gift cards and am guessing I won’t get the bonus points either. For me, it’s still worth it for the 5x UR, but a bummer that it doesn’t look like it will stack with the American shopping portal or it’s bonuses.

Staples used to always track for me for 3p giftcards up until a couple months ago on TCB, but then it started tracking recently as $0.00. They must have closed that door.

for upromise — “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus cash back. —> does this mean we cannot buy visa GC’s from giftcards.com?

Tim
Tim

I think you should still be fine for VGCs. All portals have that language, and yet they still work for GCs many times. That’s just standard boilerplate since 99% of stores don’t give portal cashback for buying giftcards (gift card stores like giftcards.com being one of the few exceptions).

Alaska’s Mileage Plan portal is horrible, I made back to school purchases for over $500 but they posted only 750 points instead of 1500. I don’t know how to contact them, I emailed them which creates a case number and it loops around until you give up.
Same thing with getting credit mileage credits (post flight) from partner airlines.

American shopping portal is the best.

The Mileage Plan™ Shopping program (the “Program”) and website are owned by Alaska Airlines, Inc. (“Alaska”) and managed and operated for Alaska by Cartera Commerce, Inc. (“Cartera Commerce”).

The AAdvantage eShopping℠ program (the “Program”) and website are owned by American Airlines, Inc. (“American”), and managed and operated for American by Cartera Commerce, Inc. (“Cartera Commerce”).

The portals that you claim are “horrible” and “the best” are run by the exact same company 🙂

Just file your ticket and keep pinging them, if you met the terms they should honor the bonus eventually.

The backend process is handled by Cartera but AA shopping portal already shows me my online shopping and also checked the box for the bonus (for current promotion).
With Alaska shopping portal, the credits are delayed and no transparency for bonuses.

Can this be stacked with the (targeted) Amex $500 Verizon purchase/10k points offer?

Bob Roberts

It clearly can they’re two different things — not like it uses a promo code.

Still waiting for AA points from mid September. Won’t purchase anything else until they clear… I’ll have a go at Southwest and hope for a better experience.

Thanks for the heads up Doc!

All the portals are run by Cartera Commerce, so you should probably expect the same experience no matter which one you use.

First-class wines for the coach prices….
I am wondering if the subsequent shipments would be coach-class wines for the first-class prices. 1500 miles for first shipment, 2500 for second, wines specially selected for entry-level wine drinkers.

I just made a purchase through the AAdvantage portal for Raise (currently 6x miles!) and used a promo code I found on another website. The terms say that you will not get bonus miles if you used a promo code not found on the portal website (and I didn’t see that before applying the promo code). Does anyone know if this is enforced?

Bob Roberts
Bob Roberts

It’s always YMMV. They may enforce or it might slip through. For Raise many portals do list their discount codes so it’s possible it may work.

Ethan
Ethan

Thank you. I’m hoping if it’s Raise reviewing the purchase and not AAdvantage then I might have a shot

Tim
Tim

The portals don’t really have any power in this situation. Raise is the one who ultimately decides if they pay a portal commission on your order. If you used additional nonqualifying coupon code, they have every right to refuse to pay commission.

Ethan
Ethan

Update: my purchase tracked for the full amount. Will report back if the miles post.

Hmm, I wish I had done this instead of staples and later finding out that I don’t get the AA points or bonus. Still good to get 5x in URs, but 9x AA plus 1x on a card would’ve been much better! Oh well, live and learn!

Bob Roberts

Still did not get the United bonus from October, so be prepared to wait a long time for these. And potentially have to submit tickets to get them. Be sure to keep good records of which date you did each bonus (and which player if you’ve got multiple in the game).
