Do the stays need to be in the U.S? or can be in any country? It seems like anywhere should work but not completely sure.
How much is 40k Marriott points generally worth? I’m not too familiar with their points and the general value you get for using the points. Would 40k be worth about 2 – 3 nights at a 3 star hotel in the U.S for example?
ah nevermind looks like Malaysia is no longer on the site.. last year they had a lot in Malaysia and they were ok priced (about the same as Airbnb).. looks like Malaysia hosts took it off the platform.. bummer
So basically these are vacation rentals by individuals owner – form what i can gather. Very misleading advertising – it appears to go through Marriott booking service, but after that – i guess you’ve to contact individual owners.
I was looking for something in Miami and prices looked bit too good – so then it is more like vacation rentals by owners and not clear whom you call if you have any issue.
I recently (early April) completed a stay in Austin (5night), place was great and clean. It was also cheaper than AirBnb/VRBO, just received my points and 10k bonus points today. I woudl stay at the same house again, it was nice but I cannot say about other places.

I have only heard cautionary tales about Home & Villas by Marriott. Has anyone had a good experience? Is there any value compared to vrbo and airbnb?
Yes, a quick search brings up only terrible reviews. Looks like it is separate from Marriott, uses third parties, with no contact numbers to call if there is an issue and no accountability. A really bad product per many reviews. No personal experience, but will not try.
