How to Get an Image Next to your Comment on Doctor of Credit

Every few weeks someone reaches out via the comments or email to find out why some ‘special’ readers have their picture next to their DoC blog comments while others do not. To get an avatar next to your comments on this site and many others, you need to register with Gravatar.

Gravatar Link

As the Gravatar site explains: A Gravatar is a Globally Recognized Avatar. You upload it and create your profile just once, and then when you participate in any Gravatar-enabled site, your Gravatar image will automatically follow you there.

In the top-right corner on Gravatar.com, they’ll prompt you to login to your WordPress account; or create one now for free if you don’t already have one. Then upload your picture or whatever avatar you’d like to use and it’ll follow you around the internet on many, many websites.

The Gravatar is tied to the email address used with your WordPress account. Any time you use that email address on a blog which is Gravatar-enabled, the image will come up automatically; you don’t need to be signed into your WordPress or Gravatar account – it’s tied to the email. You can also add multiple email addresses to be tied to the same Gravatar. Just be sure to use a different email address if you post a comment somewhere that you don’t want your image showing.

Would this bypass waiting for my comments to be moderated for visibility each time?

William Charles

No, but if you’re using the same e-mail address each time and there aren’t links in your comments then usually they will auto approve anyway

Ohh, that’s why – I never bothered to fill in the Email field since it wasn’t required.

You need An email for a Gravatar anyways. 🙂

This is always fun when you see the image on other sites. Like when creating a support ticket with Dosh for an untracked purchase. You’re having a real conversation with someone and Dave Chapelles crack head Tyrone pops up.

Lmao, that’s gotta make the support person chuckle.

Thanks Doc. I was one of the Noobs that emailed Doc yesterday. Glad a post came up and helping others 🙂

Abey

I didn’t know that either until William told me a couple years ago in one of the comments.

I only knew it because I already have a Gravatar for another site.

I would be more interested in getting email notifications for replies to my comments

1. Email notifications for replies to your comments – Before you post, click the Bell icon next to the “Post Comment” button. Of course, this only works if you use a real e-mail, as I am sure many make it up.

OR
Chuck
2. Email notifications for new comments on a page, or, just new replies to your comments – At the top of the Comments section, click the “Subscribe” Envelope icon and use the pull – down menu, enter e-mail address, etc.

Covering the important things here on DOC 😉

Gadget

Munchy Depends what you consider important.

The images make the conversations feel a little more personal, and less anonymous. And, it is easier to remember Todd lightning bolt i.e. Chargers Fan than Joe or Jeff Initial and an empty block.

Also, lends a greater amount of credibility when you are willing to register an e-mail, stick with it, and not just post with fake e-mail addresses and then make up another one tomorrow.

However, some people’s choice of pictures do not suite them and should be banned. For example, JuicyJosh needs a clown image. (Yes, I am joking)

Munchy

No no, I totally agree.

Wasn’t meant as a diss or anything. I’m genuinely happy it’s being covered and SHOULD be covered. Just meant as a lighthearted shoulder nudge 🙂

And yes, DOC should write an article about how to pick the correct profile image 😉

Gadget

Then why do you not have an image? 🙄🤡
