H&R Block’s MoneyStream Now Honoring Their $25 Tango Promotion

H&R Block offers a service called MoneyStream, a service which looks at your bills & income (similar to Mint.com) and sends you reminders when bills become due. Earlier this year they were offering a $25 Tango gift card if you linked specific bank accounts to help them with testing.

The fine print made it seem like everybody was eligible, but then H&R Block sent out e-mails that only those who received a targeted e-mail could participate. Naturally people were pretty angry at this bait & switch (myself included) and closed their accounts in protest.

H&R Block has decided to do the right thing and will now be honoring this promotion, you should have received the following e-mail from H&R Block:

You’re receiving this email because MoneyStream and I owe you two things: The FREE $25 Tango Gift Card we promised — and our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience.

Recently, an invitation-only offer was sent to a select group of H&R Block customers for the purpose of adding specific capabilities to America’s #1 tax service. Unfortunately, that offer was appropriated by a few blogs and deal sites who then promoted it to a wider audience of consumers for whom it was never intended. You were one of them. And through no fault of your own, you signed up for MoneyStream with the expectation of receiving a Gift Card.

Initially, when the miscommunication was discovered, we made the decision to offer an alternative “thank you” reward to those enrollees who had not received our original invitation. We thought that was a fair and reasonable solution.

But, after hearing from a number of disappointed users, we’ve decided to reverse that decision — so here’s your $25 Tango Gift Card. Use your FREE Gift Card at dozens of online and retail stores, including Amazon, Target, iTunes, Zappo’s, Home Depot and many more. All without any fees or expiration dates!* Just click here to claim your Gift Card**

I’m glad to see that H&R block are doing the right thing and giving consumers something that was promised to them. I think they’ve handled this whole situation poorly, but it’s always good to get a positive outcome in the end. Make sure you follow me on Twitter to get notified of these new free money deals as they come in.

I never actually received the email about them not honoring it but I did receive the email that you mentioned here. My account is still active. Does anyone think it’s possible they will have a referral promotion in the future ? If so, I would consider keeping the account open.

I have not received such email although did participate in the promotion, is that still too early?
