Hyatt Extending Some Free Night Certificates Unexpectedly

Earlier this year Hyatt had announced that free night, suite upgrade and club lounge access awards that expire between March 1 and December 31, 2020 would be extended until December 31, 2021. A reddit user has just had their free night certificate that expires in February, 2021 extended until December 31, 2021. At this stage it’s not clear if this has been done ahead of an unofficial announcement or what the cut off date for a new round of extensions will be as many others have not had their certificates extended.

Hyatt credit card free night certificate with original expiration of 05/02/21: not extended and still expires in May 2021. Will update if anything changes.

How long does it normally take for you to earn your free night? My anniversary was in July and my annual fee was charged in August, but i’m yet to receive my certificate. Any ideas anyone?

When I tried to cancel my hyatt credit card I was told free nights will not expire not until 12/31/21 but the expiration in mine has not changed from 7/31/21

I found Hyatt’s original extension a little unfair. Someone who got a free night certificate issued in April 2019 (originally expires in April 2020) has it extended to December 2021 but someone who got a new certificate in April 2020 has expiry in April 2021.

It would be a good decision if they do this new round of extensions.

It’s a goodwill gesture. What do you mean “unfair”?

They knew anyone with an unused April 2020 cert would be unable to use them. Those with 2021 certs it was unclear. Now that it’s later in the year, Hyatt may extend some of the certs for next year.

Yes, its a goodwill gesture. My bad. Let me rephrase that. I think its a little illogical.

Someone who’s certificate originally expires in April 2020 now has a later expiry date (expires December 2021) than someone who got a new certificate in April 2020 (expires April 2021). Both were equally impacted by pandemic. It makes sense to provide similar expiry in both of these cases.

Two expiring next May and July. Neither extended. Globalist status.
I’m more concerned with 3 suite upgrades expiring in February. I just emailed my concierge to ask for an extension of those but I doubt she has the authority.
Either way I can’t complain with Hyatt’s generosity. They gifted me EP status with AA which was extended another year. Huge win.
As long as they don’t follow Marriott’s lead of screwing up SPG, I’ll not complain about much with them.

One award 1-4 cat Jan expiration from milestones, one credit card 1-4 award for 15k spend March expiration, both not extended, Explorist status.

I wish they’d allow you to convert a free night into Hyatt points like they were doing at the beginning of March. I’m sitting on 2 free nights and would much prefer the 10k points to use at higher category options.

If your a globalist, I think they still allow that but not 100% sure.

They never allow the conversion until the date is near. I think 30 days or maybe even passed, can’t remember exactly.
