Hyatt Extends Free Nights & Points Again (Off Peak/Peak Delayed)

In April Hyatt announced some extensions to free nights, status & points. Hyatt has just announced another round of extensions as follows:

  • Points will not be forfeited (expire) through June 30th, 2021. Normally they are forfeited if an account is inactive for 24 months
  • Free night, suite upgrade and club lounge access awards that expire between March 1st and December 31st, 2020 will be extended until December 31st, 2021. All unused Suite Upgrade and Club Lounge Access awards with February 28, 2021 expiration dates will be extended to December 31, 2021. In addition, all unused Free Night awards that were earned in 2020 with 2021 expiration dates will be extended to December 31, 2021.
  • Elite status has already been extended until February 28, 2022.

Hyatt will also be delaying the introduction of off peak and peak point redemption until July 2021. There are also small number of properties changing category (4 up, 12 down). Hyatt is the first major hotel program to extend points and free night certificates a second time. It’ll be interesting to see if others follow their lead or not.

I was so looking forward to all of 2020-2022 being considered ‘off peak’ travel times too.

Yep, my free night with January 2021 expiration is still not updated to December 31, 2021 expiration as per Doc’s post. Based on the FAQ, it looks like the dates will be updated in the month of the expiration: https://help.hyatt.com/en/faqs/world-of-hyatt/covid-19.html

So if I read this correctly my Jan 5th 2021 expiring cert should be extended to DEC 2021 correct?

Does this apply to the Hyatt Chase Card free night? If it was earned in 2021, does it get extended? I have one expiring in a few months. Checked my account and it is not extended.

I’m glad they did this. It didn’t made sense that certs issued in 2019 would expire later than certs issued in 2020.

Looks like it’s all extended now; as of 2020-10, I have two Cat 1-4 certs, exp 2021-05 and 2021-12, in my account (they must have re-extended the one that must have had 2020-05 expiration date originally, first upgrading it to 2020-12 earlier this year).

Actually, I was hoping for it to expire to get it redeemed for 10k points; not sure if that’s still available or not, there’s been some reports that it’s offered in place of extension towards the expiration date. Anyone tried getting it otherwise?

Technically, Cat 4 is 15k, but Cat 1 is 5k, Cat 2 is 8k, so, I think the points are a better choice, given that even Cat 1 is relatively common with Hyatt, not to mention that there’s lots of Cat 2 in many metros; plus, no need to worry about the expiration dates.

William Charles It would be helpful to have an up-to-date post on all the recent extensions/policies hotels and airlines have regarding points and free night/flight expiration dates. Does that already exist?
