Our Verdict

The good thing about points bookings is you get a $175 resort credit per person per day and unlimited meals, snacks. The rates are as follows:

It seems award bookings are the Unlimited Miraval package. The annoying thing is you have to pay a surcharge of 20,000 points per night for a second guest, but I guess that makes sense given the resort credit and the fact they get unlimited meals and snacks. After rebate you’d be paying 22,500 points per night for one person or 32,500 for two people. Points + cash bookings don’t seem to be good value at all. They offered a similar promotion last year. I’d love to hear from readers who stayed what their thoughts were.

I wonder if (and how many points) they will return if I book using Hyatt Free Nights? Any DP?

Stayed there on last years promotion and had a great time. The weather actually wasn’t that bad. Assuming there is no additional taxes or resort fees for the points and cash option, P+C is actually a very good redemption value as well if you work out the cpp. I show 1.8cpp if you don’t count the point rebate and 3.7 cpp if you do, which works out about the same for a full point redemption.

I wonder which rooms are included in the suite selection? I’m guessing definitely not the villas, but there are also some very high end suites

Ah, I see it is points back after your stay. So you need the full amount to get this. Not too much of a problem for me, though I just got rid of a bunch. Thinking more of a problem for some friends of ours to accumulate enough for 3 nights or so.

If at all you are paying by cash, Amex has an offer of $100 statement credit when you spend $500.

There’s an Amex offer that could be stacked with this if you go the points+cash route I think.

Are the resort fees included in the points booking? Otherwise it’s $800 for 3 nights.

Yes resort fees are included. It won’t cost you anything additional unless you go over your $175 resort credit.

Stayed there in April for the Hyatt CC 2FN sign up bonus ($1200/night when we were there). Was quite happy with it. P2 and I both got a massage each day with our $175/person/day resort credit, and still had money to blow on a random activity. Food was excellent and they did not look down on us for ordering more than one entree and desert at dinner.

Having lived in Arizona in the summer before, it’s not that bad. In Tucson you’re about 10 degrees cooler than Phoenix, and besides most of your time won’t be outside anyways (we ate our meals outside in April, but there’s no need too). Even though we were just there and it’s a 3 hour flight away + 2 hour drive away, we are tempted to go back for this!

Not bad, I’d use it if I were local or otherwise there on business but yeah, not planning a trip to Phoenix for this…in the summer.

Why would I travel somewhere to stay inside? Makes zero sense,

Used the 2 free nights at this resort back in March (Cash rates were $2200 a night). The hotel is definitely worth visiting if you were able to get 2 free Hyatt nights before the offer went away and can still be worth it with this current promotion. We used the $175 a person a day for 3 different spa treatments each and they were all amazing ($350 total each came off the bill as you can spread the $175 over multiple days, just can’t spread it across guests). Be aware that things book up early, so the further out you book, the greater chance you have at booking classes/excursions. We booked last minute but had no problem getting spa treatments (they offer discounted spa packages early in the day) however, we could not get any of the classes/hikes we wanted. We enjoyed all our meals, the pool area, and walking around the hiking trails.

Call me crazy, but taking a vacation to the middle of the desert in the summertime isn’t on my bucket list.
