IHG has started some members free night award certificates by a period of six months, but they are only do it if you call in. My gut feeling is that this will become official policy at some stage and these certificates will be extended automatically and possibly even by more than six months but some people might want to brave the hold times and get them extended now – especially if the end date is fast approaching.

As of April 4 all certificates issued for 2019 which expired after March 1, 2020 now expire December 31, 2020. And certificates issued in 2020 have an 18 month redemption period. This could allow one to string together three free nights in 2021.
My certificate was issued in May 2019. It expires May 31, 2020. The expiration date has not been automatically extended. I will contact IHG next month for an extension.

My Cert expires today. IHG Rewards told me I had to call my bank. 🤦
Called yesterday and was told all certs will be extended automatically to 12/31/2020. BTW my cert is going to expire on 4/26/20.
Has anyone had any sucess in getting a certifcate that doesn’t expire until September extended by 6 months?
This is the IHG # I called, 888-211-9874. Stay online until someone picked up. In my case, it is around 6 min.

I was able to get mine extended for 6 months by calling (855)743-7686. Called around 11:15PM PST. Less than 1 minute waite.
For the automated system, I just said “Representative”. When the automated system asked me to clarify, I said “Rewards”. When they asked to clarify again, I said ” Extend Free Night Certificate”. My call was then routed to the rep, and she was able to extend it.

just called and extended 2 nights on 2 accounts one expiring in april and 2nd in mid-may, both extended till 30-Sep, I guess we should call after April 1st, may be expiry would be Oct-end.
