Our Verdict

Looks like this promotion has been running since the start of 2020, not sure why I’m only finding out about it now or if I missed it when it was covered earlier in the year. This does stack with other IHG offers, for example:

Likely reason you didn’t hear about it before is because this is yet another YAWNER…. (as in why would anybody hype a non-deal like this?) a lot of work (10 nights!) for a whopping, kowabunga (as in incredibly measly) 10k points…. yet another loser for the “into the chaos” gang from Manilla. (IHG hasn’t had any “exciting” promos since Drew Macomber went awol) 🙁

Any data points on whether on-property spend counts towards that required average of $30 per night? I.e. could I book a points stay but have breakfast, restaurant, spa, etc spend and still qualify for the promo?

I received three direct emails from IHG for this specific promo over the last two months

I don’t see a way to register for the promo. Maybe only those targeted can enroll?

Just one more example why IHG sucks, in comparison to any other major chain. Their normal elite benefits are pathetic, and their response to COVID has seemingly been to decrease promos not increase them like every other major chain. And the fact that they still exclude award stays from these weak promos makes them even more useless.
This is why I only time I stay at an IHG property is when I have no other choice.

So…in other words, you’re outraged?

Nope, just seeing them live up to my extremely low expectations. That’s different.

“no” — just speaking truth…. another way to put this would be, “Wow, if you stay only 10 separate PAID nights with IHG, and you too will be rewarded with (by golly, shazaaam, poof!) enough points to stay at, oh, say, a generic category 1 Cambridge Suites in middle-of-nowhere Sidney, Montana. (about six hours west of the famous University of Southern North Dakota at Hoopsville)

Yes, dripping with sarcasm. (Yes, I get that DoC’s posts are unbiased, as in not conditioned by fidelity to links from credit cards or merchants…. Then again, some candid detachment/analysis would be nice too)

Personally, I think IHG, at the very base level, has much better value than any other chain, at least compared to Hilton and Marriott. Their welcome drink, which is sometimes just a can of cola, is given to even the very base members. I need to be a Hilton Gold member or a Marriott Platinum member to get a free drink.
