IHG New Members Bonus: Complete Two Stays & Get A Free Night Worth Up To 40,000 Points

Update 7/22/21: Available again.

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • IHG is offering new members a free night certificate that can be used at a property costing up to 40,000 points per night when they complete two stays by September 6, 2021

The Fine Print

  • Must sign up by September 30, 2020

Our Verdict

I imagine most readers already have an IHG account. Late last year we saw point bonuses of 15,000-30,000 points in accelerate style offers for new members as well. This is obviously a bigger bonus if you use the free night certificate somewhere that costs 40,000 points per night normally. IHG also has an ambassador deal at the moment as well.

Not clear from T&C, but does booking 2 rooms for 1 night qualify for this offer?

Generally you need to book directly for these type of promotions.

If someone books for me using their points, who gets the free night?

Terms say stay must be a minimum of $30 so point bookings would not count. Also, I don’t think there is a way to attach another IHG# to a booking with points because it’ll be automatically attached to the person that booked it.

I have not even used our 4 free nights, 2 will expire end of this year. Also Marriott and hotels.com free nights. Worst time to hold on to hotel and airline cards

I closed a few airline/hotel cc, not worth the annual fee.

Is it worth it to create a new acc for this? Since I might be staying 2 times anyways

Depends on whether you care about the points you earned in the first two stays not being easily transferrable to your main account

IHG might shut down your main accounts entirely for breaking T&S. We’ve seen this a couple years back (i think it was around 2013-2014) where even Royal Ambassadors got their account cancelled for some very minor and trivial T&S violation.

Should say January 31, 2021, not 2020
