JetBlue Switching To A Group Boarding Process Starting October 17th

JetBlue has sent out an e-mail to Mosaic members letting them know that starting October 17th they will be switching to a group boarding process. Mosaic members will still receive priority boarding and this will be listed on their boarding pass. JetBlue previously boarded passengers based on their seat position (with the back boarding before the front). Mythbusters has an episode on plane boarding, airlines care a lot about boarding times because the longer boarding takes the more time the aircraft is sitting idle not earning revenue. As you can see in the Mythbusters episode some methods saved 10 minutes of boarding time compared to the front to back method.

It isn’t entirely clear how JetBlue plans to segregate the different boarding groups at this stage, if anybody has a JetBlue flight tomorrow please let us know how it goes in the comments below.

The Group Description was already in the Apple Wallet boarding passes as of this morning. On the right of Customer Name, there was a Group field. Looks like JetBlue will use letters instead of numbers for boarding. I would have been in Group D.

I can confirm that it will be letters for sure. I actually flew on JetBlue on Sunday (two days ago) and although they used the row method to board, my boarding pass said “Group C” on it. My row number was actually row 7. So I’d guess that Mosaic is its own group, Group A is probably rows 20-30, Group B is probably rows 10-20, and C is the rest. Although I don’t know what Group D would be then.

I noticed on Jet blue that people never wait to get to the deeper end rows and how they start taxiing earlier then expected
