The Fine Print

  • Please give up to 4-6 weeks for the miles to be reflected in members’ KrisFlyer account.

Our Verdict

Not the first time Singapore has offered this sign up bonus. Obviously 500 miles isn’t a lot, but keep in mind you can transfer points from Chase UR, American Express MR, Citi ThankYou Points & Marriott points.

Keep in mind that, like many overseas airline programs, Singapore KrisFlyer miles expire after 3 years, and you can’t extend that no matter what (except one time for just 6 extra months for a fee). See section B.17 of the KrisFlyer T&Cs here:

https://www.singaporeair.com/registerKFUser.form?showTnC=y

So be sure that you’ll use your KrisFlyer miles within that 3-year time, or else they’ll be lost!

For a summary of the expiration policies of lots of airline (and hotel) programs, see the wikipost atop this thread (which is a Sticky thread in the MilesBuzz forum of FlyerTalk):

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milesbuzz/1706167-miles-points-do-don-t-expire.html

The big play with Krisflyer is the flexibility with UR, MR, and TYP, etc…and no early close-in redemption fees. So great to use on United flights if the redemption value is good.

Just curious.. is 500 miles really useful? The transfers are done in 1000 increments and redemptions are multiples of 1000 so this means you always get 500 in leftover, unless you earn miles from somewhere else like flying.

Some redemptions are 17.5k, so the 500 miles may come in handy.

i just signed up. What a frustrating experience. Their form did not play nicely with Google’s Autofill and when I got to the city field, they pre-filled it with cities from my state and stopped at the letter W, so I had to select OTHER (mine starts with Y)! They also moved way too far down with each click when moving thru years for date of birth.

To tell you the truth, that sounds way better than the rest of Singapore’s website. Good luck searching availability, booking a flight, changing a member of your family on the website, or doing anything else.

That is not a direct link. I can’t see any link in the article you directed us to.

Can These points be transferred TO any other programs?

As far as I know, KrisFrlyer miles are not transferrable like UR, MR, TY. But KrisFlyer miles are incredibly versatile because they can be used to book flights on Singapore Airlines, Star Alliance partners (United, ANA, Asiana, EVA Air, Lufthansa, etc. ) and Alaska Air (great value for West coast travel).

Hope that helps
