The standard deal at Kroger stores is 2x fuel points on gift card purchases, and they’ll occasionally release offers like this one to get 4x fuel points. These deals are usually the same at all other Kroger-affiliated stores, like Smith’s, Fry’s, etc, as well.

It appears that all merchant gift cards are included in this offer. As for Visa/MC/Amex gift cards, the variable-load cards are excluded in the terms while the fixed-load cards should work. In practice, there have been varying reports whether fixed-load Visa/MC/Amex cards work.

Our Verdict

Nice two-week period during which we can get the bonus 4x fuel points.

Usually, every 1000 points gets you a discount of $1 per gallon with a 35-gallon limit, a max value of $35 per 1000-points. These details do vary by store and region.

If you purchase a $250 gift card you’ll earn 1,000 points which can save you up to $35, a 14% discount on the gift cards. You’ll also receive bonus grocery store points on your credit card for Kroger purchases.

To maximize the deal even further, remember that you can get free cell phone service with Kroger when you earn fuel rewards points; no points are used up with this benefit, it’s just an additional free perk which you get from fuel points, aside from the free gas.
