Our Verdict

Normally you earn double fuel points on gift card purchases anyway, so this would be more useful for regular purchases I guess. Unfortunately I don’t think this will double other promotions they have (e.g if they run 4x fuel points it won’t magically become 8x) but you can dream I guess? Worth saving to your account anyway even if you don’t have firm plans to shop there on weekends.

Kroger regularly runs 4x point bonuses on gift card spend. Buy $250 in gift cards for places you regularly shop at using an appropriate rewards card. The effective discount is 14%+the rewards card. The 2x on groceries mentioned above is helpful in reducing on grocery items where Kroger is price competitive (we spend about 60% Aldi, 35% Kroger 5% Walmart). They also have 50 points/prescription (sometimes with $25 grocery gift cards for xfering one in). Fill out surveys for 50 points from time to time. Mix & match to gain 1000 points (good for current month+next). Buy 35 gallons of gas – the max – at $1 off/gallon for $35 off (I fill up gas cans for the extra or have my wife bring her car too). I don’t use it, but there are also prepaid wireless rewards which duplicate those points roughly. End result – the (fuel) points program at Kroger is pretty handy. and around here, the gas is identical or cheaper to the price everywhere else.
