[Expired] Kroger: Save $10 On Groceries When You Purchase A $50 ‘Happy’ Giftcards

Deal has expired, click here to view more Kroger deals.

Deal is back and valid until 11/26. Hat tip to FM

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Check your Kroger coupons for the following offer:
    • Save $10 on your grocery purchase when you buy participating happy or choice gift cards totaling $50 or more

The Fine Print

  • Offer not valid on online purchases.
  • Product and offer may not be available in all states.
  • Limit of one coupon per household.
  • Exp 11/26/2018

Our Verdict

Not sure if this will stack with the 4x fuel points offer that starts tomorrow or not. I think it should be considered a third party gift card, but you never know. Make sure to use a credit card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases.

Wonder if this will take $10 off VGCs fees or need to be “Grocery Purchase”, i guess i will try and report back.

Ann

“Grocery Purchase” just means ‘whatever you’re buying at Kroger’ (other than prescriptions/fuel), I think. You get this $50 Happy GC for $40. I did a similar deal on Home Depot gift cards last year, only bought the GCs and got the discount.

Frank
Frank

Yes, got Happy 50 for 40

Still confused as to which gift card purchases AMEX considers worth its while to then clawback either a signup or ongoing bonus. This deal SEEMS “safer”, for example, in using a BC Preferred (earning 6% at grocery) than the recent Safeway offer for $15 off 2 $100 Visa or MC (which can set off a noisy Level 3 fire alarm). But I suppose assuming anything with AMEX now is at your peril.

Dylan
Dylan

Kroger does not publish L3 data. I have MSed many thousands with my BCP with kroger saftely.

Mikey
Mikey

Thank you, any and all datapoints are appreciated since many (including myself) are wary of AMEX now.

Superchurn
Superchurn

same with safeway

Mr. PTM

Safeway does push L3 data to Visa (at least in Denver) per the supplier locator tool. I assume they would provide L3 to Amex as well. YMMV

Anyone try to use happy giftcard to buy giftcard at specific place? For example, use happy beauty at sephora to buy gc? I want to try actually. It is very inconvenient to use this happy gc online compared with real gc….

normally u can’t buy a gift card with another gift card. could be wrong though

I used the Happy Eats at Panera to buy a Panera gift card to be able to use in the app.

THANKS FOR THE DP!

This -should- work, since “Happy” GCs run as Visa.

Used happy guy at Home Depot to get Arco gas pass, total 15% saving on gas + 4x mr

second DP of Happy Guy working at Home Depot to buy Home Depot gift cards…don’t use self checkout though, go through a normal checkout and if u run into problems point out that it says on them to run as credit

Tad

Word is that they do run at self-check at stores w/the upgraded “big screen” self-check.

Had an odd issue – had to redeem online as the mag-strip was demagetized.

Superchurn did you do Arco GC or other offerings? Not a fan of Arco gas (Costco, Chevron or QT when back east). Do you have a QFC account as well?

Superchurn

Yoni nope i didn’t try buy other cards at Home Depot. Is there a QFC angle i missed?

Be on the lookout for “best-customer” bonus fuel points from Ralphs for stacking opportunity.

Does this give normal fuel points as well as the 200 or just the 200? i.e. for a $50 card it would give 50×2=100 + the 200 bonus = 300

Drivesabrowntruck
Drivesabrowntruck

It gives the bonus (200 best customer) plus any regular (normally 2X,but 4X this weekend) bonus. So a $50 bought this weekend would generate 400 fuel points (200 bonus + 4X on gift cards 200 = 400)

Not showing up for me. Guess Ohio is one of the states it’s not available in 🙁

Check under “General,” not “Gift Cards.”

Thanks for this tip. Found it under general.

bought a $50 happy gift card, took off $10, then got another $10 coupon for next shopping…at Ralph’s

Received the same coupon at Fred Meyer. The $10 coupon printed immediately after entering $50 for the gift card at self-check out.

Got the same thing at Fry’s

I also had a “Get $10 off your purchase of $50 or more when you download the digital coupon.” available to me. A relative did not have that one in their account. If you activate both that and the Happy coupon, it appears that buying the Happy GC and $10 of other stuff in the same transaction should get you $60 worth of stuff for $40.

Dylan
Dylan

Also have this offer. And butter is half off. Gonna be a good time at Kroger tonight.

Ann

How did it go for you? I’m going this afternoon, but I’m seeing a few comments on slickdeals that the additional $10 off $50 e-coupon does not work with this deal, because it excludes gift cards. 🙁 So just the one $10 off $50 Happy GC e-coupon will work, no double-dip. But hopefully at least I’ll get lucky and get the additional $10 off $10+ future purchase coupon printout that some people are randomly getting when buying the Happy GC.

Edit: There are also a number of people complaining that the non-gift-card $10 off $50 didn’t work at all for them, even on a transaction that only included groceries, and they had to beg for manual adjustments. Might be better to just not bother with that one. 🙁

Ann
Ann

I struck out on the $10 off $10s, but the Happy GC $10 off $50 worked.

I can confirm that it does work with the 4x fuel points. I purchased one today.

Unclesam

This is a much better deal than what I thought I would get from reading this thread. I loaded $200 on a happy card and I got $10 off instantly. Got 4 x $10 grocery on next shopping trip coupon and also got 800 fuel points. I wish I had put full $500. It would have most likely generated 10 x $10 grocery coupons and 2000 fuel points..That would have been a dynamite deal.

Ann
Ann

Do the survey on your receipt for another 50 points, too.

mishyq

which kroger did you go to? is it the real flagship kroger, or a kroger affiliate store?

i didnt get any of these coupons when i do it at the latter 🙁

Unclesam
Unclesam

It was an actual Kroger in the DFW area.

Ann
Ann

I did this on Sunday on two accounts at a real Kroger, ~20min apart, at different self-checkout stations, and neither received the $10 printout coupon.

al613
al613

Seems to be just one per account, correct?

Braden

Can confirm that buying a $500 happy guy gift card took $10 off immediately so I paid $490 and got 10 $10 off your next shipping trip coupon print outs valid until 11/19/18. Does anyone know if these future coupons work on anything? Also can multiple of these be used in the same order?

Dumars
Dumars

As a data point, the physical $10 off coupons are one per transaction. Are there data points about back to back transactions at self checkout? I did back to back transactions and did not receive the coupon the second time just the $10 off– perhaps there needs to be a greater delay between the transactions.

Dumars
Dumars

No longer prints out coupons at my Kroger

Geng
Geng

I think it was a coding bug at kroger brands that it takes 10 off 50+ AS WELL AS prints out vouchers of 10 off grocery. I was at a QFC yesterday and got the grocery vouchers. Today I went back to the same place and it no longer prints out the vouchers anymore

Clara
Clara

the $10 off did not trigger automatically, at least as of yesterday 11/20. Has that been fixed today 11/21?

Drivesabrowntruck
Drivesabrowntruck

Had the same problem, manager manually took off $10.

Nick
Nick

I had the same issue yesterday (11/20). $50 happy dad w or w/o $10 extra groceries did not trigger the promised discount. Would-be happy dad came out of Kroger unhappy.

Lily
Lily

Still not working last night even though i had over $50 food with the same receipt. After the store manager spent 20 minutes “studying” the digital coupon on my phone and i was going to give up, he manually took $10 off my food bill.

escot
escot

This is turning into an unending nightmare. Here’s in Hoo’ville VA, my local Kroger CSR refused to manually take off the $10 off the receipt…. saying that it only comes off 24 hours AFTER the first visit…. (on a subsequent visit — never mind there’s no language indicating that, nor do we get any coupon, either on the receipt or separatedly)

Called up Kroger HQ customer service and was actually told something similar — rep. there knew that there’s been a lot of complaints, that it’s not at all clear, etc., etc. Lucky are those with local managers doing the manual overrides, rather than sticking with the obvious Kroger IT/management screw up on this iteration of the Happy cards promo.

Ann
Ann

Ridiculous. Glad I didn’t attempt it again in this round. When I did it in the first round, twice, the $10 came off immediately on that transaction (I was only charged $40). Some people ALSO randomly received $10 coupon printouts (immediately in-hand) to use on a future purchase, though I did not.
