[Expired] Kroger: Save $5 on $50 Visa/MC Gift Card (1/24-1/25)

Deal has expired, view more Kroger deals by clicking here.

The Offer

Direct Link to offer

  • Save digital coupon to get $5.00 off the purchase of a $50 Mastercard or Visa gift card.

The Fine Print

  • Download the coupon from January 22-25.
  • Redeem once from January 24-25.

Our Verdict

The $5 coupon essentially neutralizes the $4.95 activation fee. Sounds like it’ll only work on the $50 denom, so not the best deal, but might be useful to some. You should earn fuel points on the purchase as well. Use Discover or Dividend for 5%, or use a card that earns a bonus rate at supermarkets.

I only able to get one 50$ card with coupon, not worth to argue since it’s normally refer to normal sale item upto to 5, not on gift cards per my experience. So I voided 4 cards and bought one. I did try to do another transaction but no discount, so i voided that.

You’d have to use five separate Plus Card accounts and clip the coupon once to each, but yeah, it can be done.

So if you get it, what do you do with it? Every thing I spend on has 3% to 5% category cards as is.

Worst case, if you use Discover/Dividends, you’ll make 5 cents out of it :))

That must be nice. I invariably have some non-bonused spending, which is where I try to use such cards. A couple examples are my gas bill (as in utility, not for automobile) and medical bills. Also, for me the fundamental driver is the Fuel Points, which I value at $0.035, or 7% at 2 x Fuel Points.

The coupon details say, “Use up to 5 times in a single transaction,” but I was only able to get a single $5 discount.

Did you ask the friendly CS guy/gal to override?

I did ask, but it was beyond her ability. I went ahead and got the one and won’t invest the time to try dealing with it any further.

My experience was the same (only 1 discount applied when attempting to purchase 5). I wan’t about to argue so I voided 4 of them and only kept 1. Hardly seems worth it.

SCORE! I just got off the phone with Kroger customer service and the rep was very helpful and friendly. I explained the issue and how I printed out the terms and brought them with me. She said on her end she could not find anywhere of it saying “5x in one transaction” but since I was only able to get one yesterday she credited my Kroger account with $20 that can’t be used on gift cards but can be used on pretty much anything else. So if you got screwed on this deal as I did, reach out to Kroger customer service and they just might make it right for you. $20 of free groceries. Sweet.

Evidently this deal was not coded for 5x even though in the terms it said it was 5x/
