Lyft Launches ‘Shared Saver’ Rides, Cheaper Shared Rides With No Surge

Ride sharing company Lyft has launched a new type of ride called ‘Shared Saver‘. Shared Saver rides are similar to Uber’s Express Pool in that your ride is shared with other users and you’re generally expected to walk a short distance to a pick up location and your drop off location will often require a short walk to your final destination as well. Unlike Uber’s Express Pool, Lyft’s ‘Shared Saver’ rides will never be subject to surge pricing.

Finally. I went Uber exclusive for the expressPool. Huge value for short rides as no one else gets in or to the airport where there isn’t any walking. Worst case they pick someone up mid route which was part of normal Pool anyway

Last Uber express I took, it dropped me off on the other side of a highway, and I had almost a half-mile walk from the drop off. I guess that’s considered near my location? I was really surprised.

Just checked again because I’ve had Lyft Shared as an option previously and it’s never been priced competitively. As a real time example in NYC right now 2:30pm on a workday, a ~4 mile ride in Manhattan (for the same route) would cost me the following: Uber Pool $10.43, Lyft Shared $18.91, Via $7.55. Generally these were several dollars cheaper in Manhattan until very recently when the mayor imposed taxes and additional minimum wages for the drivers. There is an Uber surge going on right now, otherwise Uber would be close to Via’s pricing, Lyft is normally 2x Uber / Via.

That is why we uber Lyft drivers use the Mystro app to filter out uber pool and Lyft share

For Uber in Chicago, this was more like hidden inflation. Uber Pool prices (where they pickup and dropoff at exact location) are now much higher then Uber Express Pool. Sometimes the price is so close to UberX. Both Lyft and Uber haven’t implemented this service as good as Via because Via gives you options of where you will be picked up, showing you exact locations and how far you have to walk. If you’re not good at street directions, you’ll get lost and they sometimes don’t give you adequate time to get to your pickup and your co-riders will be waiting. Then some riders get mad because they get dropped off far from destination and give the driver a bad rating. Just a bad idea all around.

You mean bus or subway is always within walking distance of where you are and comes in a few minutes? Have you ever explored or spend some time just to think about different areas of cities like Los Angeles, Miami, Kansas City, Toronto, Istanbul, Cape Town, Mumbai, or …. or even New York City!
