Marriott 2021 Changes (50% Elite Night Credits, Lower Awards & More) – Elite Night Credits Posting

Update 2/2/2: Elite night credits are now posting.

Marriott has announced a number of positive changes for earning status in 2021:

  • 50% elite night credits for 2021. This is based on the status you had for 2020 (remember 2019 status was extended for 2020) and is as follows:
    • Silver: 5 additional elite nights
    • Gold: 13 additional elite nights
    • Platinum: 25 additional elite nights
    • Titanium: 38 additional elite nights
    • Ambassador: 50 additional elite nights
  • Off peak award pricing being reduced by 10%. This applies to bookings made by February 21, for stays through September.
  • Spending threshold for Marriott Ambassador reduced. Normally this requires 100 nights and $20,000 in spend. The spend requirement is now $14,000 (30% reduction).

I wonder who comes up with these complicated rules at Marriott. The fact they need a 10+ paragraph explanation and dozens of “examples” should alert to somebody at Marriott “hey, this is too complex”.

Source links? Has the 50% extra nights from last year been confirmed at all? When will they be giving away the credits?

BTW, any idea how does the number of years of status X works for lifetime? My numbers right now as of Jan 12, 2021, are still exactly the same as last Dec 2020; don’t recall when these switch in prior years.

Between all the boost elite credits and credit card nights,I’ll hit lifetime platinum without setting foot in a Marriott for almost a year. Needed ~100 nights last February, down to needing 19.

All this sounds great, except none of the benefits are still guaranteed with status to this day and no date given when they’ll continue. But it’s great it’s easier to earn status for benefits that don’t exist right!?!

They reinstated elite guarantees along with this announcement.

UANoob if you could link or point that out in the release, that would be fantastic. I haven’t seen anyone cover when they would resume status guarantees.

This is pretty spectacular. I completed a 2-night mattress run for around $150, that netted me 2 years platinum and 10 Suite Night Awards. With travel I already have planned in the latter half of 2021, I’ll be close to Titanium.

making some nights available at off-peak rates would be far better than cutting the off peak cost
Even “99% off” is useless, if the item is not available

Pretty happy about my 2020 mattress run to hit Platinum (only needed to mattress run 6 nights, wouldn’t normally mattress run) right now since now combined with the 30 CC nights I’ll automatically hit Platinum again, and 2022 should hopefully be a much better travel year.

paying/using points just to earn stay credits towards status without actually staying at a local hotel. usually this is done at a category 1 hotel or for a heavily discounted room.
