Marriott: Earn 10x United Or American Airline Miles Per $1 Spent

The Offer

  • Both United and American Airlines are offering 10x miles per $1 spent at Marriott. Delta is also offering 8x.

Our Verdict

Marriott has been offering increased rates frequent through portals, you can sometimes get 12% back as well. Most people will prefer these mile options but that is really up to you. Keep in mind booking through a portal is still considered a direct booking with Marriott so you’ll still earn regular Marriott points, earn elite night credits and have your status recognized. Can also be stacked with the new AmEx offer for $40 back on $200+.

Does anyone know if it works if I can book a prepay night for $170 and maybe order food at the hotel (room service) to get the $40 off $200?

I believe the Amex deal requires it to be done in one purchase.

If I’m about to book a room for one night at a Marriott, value-wise, is it better to do the 10x miles with American or use my AmEx platinum and get the $40 off of $200+ spend offer they just announced? Better to take the $40 off, right?

You can do both. Make the Rez through the portal using your AMEX

You can do both. Select the offer in amex and then go through airline portal for booking, use the amex card for booking. They also have some promo for free breakfast check it out.

Just to clarify, I think you just have to use the Amex to pay $200 towards the reservaton when you check out?

The reservation can be made with any card, just go through the airline portal first.

I always put reservations on my CSR for the delay/cancellation insurance, but often switch to a different card when checking into/out of the hotel in order to take advantage of Amex or other offers.

Dang… missed it. I’m showing 6 miles/$1 now at AA.
