Marriott Extending Free Night Certificates Until January 3, 2022

Marriott has announced that all rewards certificates that expire before January 2, 2022 will be extended until January 3, 2022. Points expiration will also be paused until March 31, 2022. This is the third extension Marriott has done (1 & 2). Extension won’t go into effect until May 6.

Did the expiration date switch over for anyone yet? I am still showing Aug 1 2021 for my certificates.

Mine hasn’t switched. I just checked. I hope it switches, I need to book three nights in Puerto Rico.

I checked today and it’s still stuck on August 1, 2021; hasn’t changed yet.

When will our hotels certificates be switched over to the new expiration date? I tried using mine and it won’t let me beyond the August date.

If only I had kept scrolling down the comments…May 6th is the answer to my question.

We still have two 7-night travel packages to use. Any indication if these are included?? Currently 8/1/21 expiration.

Am I reading it wrong or this is just a one-day extension?

Most certificates (those which have been previously extended because they expired in 2020) currently expire on 8/1/2020. So for those people its a 5 months extension. But yes, its possible to have just a one-day extension if your cert expires 1/2/21.

Might expires on 8/21. 4 more months not really much in this pandemic. Why tf they can’t just extend it to 2023…

It is a liability on the books for accounting purposes. These 5-6 month extensions have the benefit of getting people to use them sooner rather than later.

The Pandemic is ending for most people who have free night certs (generally the US/Canada and potentially some in Europe). A lot of travel will open up this summer with Europe getting ready to re-open and likely even more this fall.

Also, it went from 8/1 to 1/3, an increase of just over 5 months.

These certs have been extended 1-2 extra years, depending on the cert. Even as someone generally critical of the Bonvoy program I’d say that’s more than fair. I had one that expired at the end of March 2020, so 9-10 months of which was free and clear of COVID, and it’s been extended almost 2 years.

Dammit! I just wasted 5,000 points on a gift card to keep my account active.
