The Fine Print

  • Each offer has a limit of one (apart from third party gift card deal, that has a limit of 10)
  • Valid until December 17th, 2016 for Visa/Mastercard deal and December 24th for third party gift card deal

Our Verdict

They sell in denominations up to $200 for Visa/Mastercard, this should be a profitable deal (especially when you use a card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases) but the limit of one will be annoying for most people – should be able to get around this by having multiple accounts (e.g partners).

FYI I went in to get more of these today, since the coupons reappeared in my mperks account after I used them the first time. Not only did I get the MCs and Visa card, but I noticed that (at least here in Chicago area) they are running a sale where you get a $5 off your next purchase for every $50 of Meijer gift cards you buy. Max of 10 gift cards (and no mperks account required).

Deal is only good till tomorrow (Saturday) and the one catch is that the $5 off coupons that print out must be used Dec 26 through the 31st. But since I’m there every week anyway and usually spend $60-$100, it should be easy to use 10 $5 off coupons in a visit. The coupons don’t say anything about one per transaction (as other Meijer coupons frequently do), they seem to indicate that you can use up to 10.

I got 10 $50 cards and promptly set off an AmEx fraud alert, but bought them with CSR. Might go back tomorrow and see if I can get 10 more (I imagine they don’t have a way to track this if I don’t put in my mperks on that transaction). Also wondering if I can triple dip this MC and Visa deal. Crossing my fingers those coupons show up in my mperks account again tomorrow.

The two Meijer stores in Bolingbrook, IL do not code as grocery stores from my past experience.

How do you learn what stores are coded as?

Has anyone ever tried a Meijer GC to buy 3rd party GC? I have a couple coming from ebay next week.

Yes, you can use a Meijer GC to buy other GCs. And I did the same deal from ebay…my cards just came on Saturday.

Thanks for the info.

Have you ever tried a Visa card too? That would be awesome but I doubt that works.

That works too! And I’ve also used a meijer gc to buy mastercard cards as well. My data points are about a month ago, so unless things changed since then, we should be good to go.

FYI, I recommend going to the service counter to do these types of transactions.

I go to Meijer 1-2 times per week and always check the gift card rack (habit anywhere I go) and yesterday I noticed that they, out of the blue, are carrying variable load MasterCard gift cards up to $500… Have NEVER seen one at Meijer and now they are there all of a sudden. There was only about 10 of them. That’s all 🙂

Wonder if the variable load gift cards can also be purchased by any credit cards with the promotion applied…

I tried to purchase 2 variable load $500 MC gift cards and one $200 regular Visa gift card. The cashier had trouble getting the transaction to go through so she rang up one $500 and one $200 successfully. Then the other $500 card, and said I could call MPerks to resolve the $15 credit. After I paid for the $500 MC I was then informed by the cashier that the card did not activate. So I had to go to customer service where they eventually got the store manager involved and after 10 minutes were finally able to get my refund and then ended up purchasing 2 $200 MC cards. So much for flying under the radar at that store.
