Great River FCU & Credit Union 1 are merging.
Hmm… Is the play here to close the checking but keep the savings open and get a foot in the door at Credit Union 1 for whenever they decide to bring back a promo? I remember I tried opening an account with Credit Union 1 in 2022 but was denied due to identity verification although I was in-state.
Sounds like a reasonable plan. I too, OOS, was denied for Credit Union 1 in 2022. Great River has been good to my P2 and I.

I called Great River today to close my checking account. They were able to do it over the phone in less than 30 seconds. They even moved my $1 to my share account for me.
I call, only as a last resort. Sent SM’s today, P1 & P2, asking to close the checking and keep the savings share.
Got a response in about an hour. Checking account disappeared from online banking right away.
Also got a giant envelope in the mail today with the Credit Union 1 membership agreement and disclosures. Very exciting. /s

$50 savings bonus for youth, ages 0-12. Do they check ID for this? 🙂

Back at $100. Must be 10 debit transactions of $10 or more this time around.

any benefits of this account besides the $100?
Did anyone receive a 1099 for this bonus?
Nope. I checked in online banking and my mailed 1099’s. (P1 & P2)

I received the $100 referral bonus, which is still available. You will need to call in to get your account set up after applying in order to get approved. If you can’t get through to a representative on their direct line, try calling the credit union’s main phone number, and they’ll transfer you over to someone who can help you.
Membership eligibility is nationwide if you join the American Consumer Council or the Financial Fitness Association (only the ACC option was available at the time that I signed up). No credit card funding is available. You will need to set up a $200 direct deposit and 10 $10+ debit card transactions within the first 60 days after account opening. Setting up online banking and e-statements are also required.
Email me at [email protected] for my first and last name, which you will need to enter on your account application for the referral offer. Also, you will need the current promo code for the referral program, which is OWLREFER100.
Details are here: https://www.greatriverfcu.org/refer/
Anyone have any experience opening a minor account for the $75 referral bonus? I’m wondering if there would be a Chex inquiry and/or credit hp. Or maybe just opening a minor account in general? I would assume neither would apply, but I’ve never opened one for a minor. Trying to get the kiddo started early in this game.
12/2: Applied OOS. Given message that Rep would contact me
12/10: Received letter in mail informing me my account could not be opened citing Chex ( in part or in whole).
Chex stats when applying were: 2/1, 6/3, 11/6, 18/12, 33/24
Second time getting denied due to Chex
What was your Chex count, and did they hard-pull your credit before denying you?
Actually not sure – they didn’t put my score in the letter they just said Chex.
Credit I am not sure either
“New Member must not have had a previous membership at Great River FCU to qualify”
Not churnable if you had an account with them in the past?!
