New Avianca Credit Cards from Banco Popular de Puerto Rico (20,000-60,000 Point Bonus)

Update: The 60,000 bonus is no longer available as there is no where to put the promo code unfortunately.

On Thursday we shared details and a full review of the two new Avianca credit cards. At the time it was possible to apply for the cards, but this was quickly pulled and replaced by a message stating the cards would go live on November 28th. The cards have now gone live:

You should be able to get a bonus of 60,000 miles on the Vuela card by using the promotional code AVSPWE. The bonuses on these cards are impressive given that there is no minimum spend requirement (added this to our page of credit card bonuses with no minimum spend requirement). The downside is that the annual fees on both cards are not waived.

We don’t know a lot about Banco Popular, so if you apply for the cards please share the relevant information in the comments (e.g what credit bureau they pulled, what state you’re in, did they combine inquiries if you applied for both cards, what credit limit did you receive etc etc).

As mentioned, you can find our full review of these cards here.

Star Alliance flights with no fuel surcharges. Plus with their sales they are usually the cheapest way to buy *A award flights.

DONT APPLY. TERRIBLE PROBLEMS WITH THIS PLACE. I HAVE AN 817 CREDIT SCORE, NO OUTSTANDING CREDIT BUT WHAT LEFT ON A CAR PAYMENT. I HAVE $500K IN MERRILL LYNCH, OVER $60K SITTING IN 2 CHECKING ACCOUNTS AND I GO TO USE CARD TO MAKE $9 PURCHASE AND IM DENIED. THIS TWILIGHT ZONE CONTINUES FOR 6 WEEKS OF ME BEING IN A SECURITY REVIEW. WHY??? THEY CLOSE CARD AND THEN SEND ME A BILL WITH INTEREST ON THE $150 CARD. NOT WORSE THE AGGRAVATION. NO BODY KNOWS WHATS GOING ON. OVER THERE.

I wonder if these LifeMiles can be redeemed for a statement credit. 40K miles at even half a cent per mile could be an easy way to pick up $200.

But you pay a $150 Annual Fee up front…..

How can I confirm I will receive 60,000 bonus miles instead of 40,000 after entering the promotion code? The review page still gives me 40,000

It’s a Transunion pull and after 3 verification questions, was instantly approved for 25k @ 13.99% APR.

Did you have to call in?/have you verified the 60,000 promotion?

Application says that they do not issue cards in Maryland. It’s not even an option to select Maryland as the state. Very strange.

Hi John,

I have the same issue, I cannot apply for this promotion since Maryland is not included. I called customer service and they told me that they are still working legal issues with the state of Maryland, so at this point I think I may loose this great promotion.

Can someone comment how to they treat churners? esp people with over 15 pulls in the last year.

got approved after answering 4 credit profile question for credit line of 25k with 13.99% APR….it pulled Equifax for me and I live in Texas.

Creditor Name Date of inquiry Credit Bureau
BPPR 021 11/28/2016 Equifax

it actually pulled both Equifax and Transunion:

BCO POPULAR 11/28/2016 TransUnion

I have frozen my Experian.

I applied for the Vuela card with the promo code but it showed me 40K points on the Application Review page. I am going to hold on until I see a positive confirmation of 60K bonus.

Not crazy about them pulling two bureaus, though Chase and Citi have occasionally done that too me as well on some cards – no idea why.

Thread on FT indicates 2 bureaus being pulled in at least some cases, so it seems wise to plan on both being pulled. Still debating on this one.

Against the odds of my numerous inquiries, an instant approval with 25k of credit.

I read this thread and decided to pull the trigger. I have many new cards and inquiries in profile this year and I was approved for $13k @ 18.99, decent SL. I did have to prove salary and answer the normal credit profile questions, and shortly after uploading the docs, status changed to a fully approved status. Not sure if I got the 60k bonus though. Should have the card in 7-10 business days.
