[Card Discontinued] New Synchrony B&H Payboo Credit Card Review – No Sales Tax On B&H Purchases

Update 12/20/21: Card has been discontinued, see the FAQ here. (ht reader Jon)

The B&H Payboo Credit Card program is being discontinued. Effective 11:59 p.m. EST on January 17, 2022 (“Purchase End Date”), you will not be able to make new purchases with this account, and your account will be closed on approximately April 4, 2022 (“Account Close Date”).

Original Post 5/7/19:

Synchrony and B&H have just launched a new co-branded credit card called ‘B&H payboo card‘. The main selling point of the card is that sales tax on B&H purchases are automatically refunded at check out.

Card Basics

  • No annual fee
  • Sales tax is automatically issued and redeemed directly on your order during check out
  • Save the equivalent to the sales tax you pay on every purchase shipped to eligible states
    • The tax-equivalent loyalty reward offer is not valid in Alabama, District of Columbia, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming. If shipping to these jurisdictions, enter your shipping zip code on the landing page to see your savings
    • The tax-equivalent loyalty reward offer is not available on orders shipped to any jurisdiction that does not require B&H to collect and remit state and/or local sales or use tax (Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Montana, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia, as of May 1, 2019).

Our Verdict

How good this deal is really depends on what state you live in, in some states you’re saving close to 10% whereas others you’re not saving anything. With a lot of B&H purchases you’ll also want to consider what benefits other cards offer (e.g extended warranty and price protection).

William Charles I just wanted to point out that this card is still very much alive just a different bank is servicing it with Comenity. Was able to save 10.5% on taxes on a big purchase.

The new Comenity-backed version is currently running a $50 SUB (in the form of a B&H gift card) from 11/2-11/10/22.

I’m in Atlanta, and the fine print on their Web site no longer includes Georgia. Any idea why they apparently dropped this state from the list you have in the second bullet point above?

That’s great that it saves sales tax, however you’d have to use it frequently at bh to make it worth and there is not other card benefit like extended warranty price protection, etc .

This is no winner deal for the paying customer. The Payboo credit credit card is a mistake. The tax amount is not charged directly to customer. However the amount is then used as a in store only credit. When using this credit in line with other purchases you will be charged 29.99% per cent APR if you don’t pay in full each month. Also Synchrony Financial, is taking and using your personal data for other purposes. How is this a good deal.

As I stated earlier, I live in California and my zip gets wacked to the tune of 9.75%. I play the points and miles game with half a dozen credit cards but always, without fail, pay my entire balance each month. People that pay interest, especially ludicrous interest, are suckers. So long as I pay the balance in full before the due date on the bill, I’m in. There are no cash back cards that are better.

If you have questions about how this credit card works that aren’t addressed here, contact B&H and/or Synchrony to find out the answers yourself, and come back to share them here. Will doesn’t know everything.

Usually store cards like these do not, or can easily be explained away in recon.
