[Update] New U.S. Mint Deal On March 17th ($150+ Moneymaker & $7,800+ Spend)

(update: the prices are now available, updated below)

There is yet another profitable U.S. Mint coin deal coming up on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at noon ET.

Cost of the 4-coin set is not yet fixed, but should be in the $5,200 – $5,300 range. You can only buy one set of 4. There is a shipping cost of $4.95 shipping, or pay more for insured shipping.

You should be able to lock in a deal with a coin buyer for at least $150 in profit on top of the purchase price, or possibly much more than that. We always recommend locking in a deal before these goes on sale with a reputable buyer to avoid any risk.

These coin deals became popular in our little community by one coin buyer, and there are now multiple reliable buyers out there with differing offers. We don’t recommend any specific coin buyers, but feel free to discuss offers and who you trust in the comments below. (Keep in mind there always seems to be a bit of astroturfing in the comments for different purchasers so do your own research.) Others prefer to take a risk and see what the coins are worth after purchasing.

Should be a nice moneymaker if you can get in on it, plus a nice spend driver with the $5k+ in spend. You can find what cards code as a cash advance/purchase in this dedicated post (short version: don’t use U.S. Bank/Fidelity cards).

Chuck  William Charles Would you guys consider making a post about the PFS concert ticket deals? Particularly the most recent Travis Scott deal which seems to have went epicly wrong for them and has left a lot of people hanging out to dry.

William Charles  Chuck I second this. I purchased nearly $36K in tickets from PFS, and it seems like they fumbled it and they’re possibly going to leave people high and dry. They’ve stopped responding to my emails after telling me that they believe I bought them to resell myself, which is absurd, in part because not a single ticket has been listed for sale or left any of my accounts (one of multiple refutes I had in my reply to them). This was almost a week ago and they haven’t responded to that or my follow-up emails. Very shaky and highly disturbing.

I don’t think we are going to cover the fall out of a deal that we never covered in the first place. We stopped mentioning specific reselling groups to specifically avoid this sort of situation tbh

FWIW I learned about PFS from your DoC and while I don’t have a stake in this current situation I am still on the PFS mailing list from a deal that you had advertised (potentially taken a commission on?) back in the day. I think for long time readers it might be worth the warning about PFS (and buying clubs more generally) given a lot of folks only interaction with them will have been through you.  William Charles

We didn’t take a commission from PFS. We made an editorial decision not to mention specific buying groups a long time ago, people need to decide their own risk tolerances.

If you haven’t already, you should join the Telegram group for buyers in this Travis Scott deal, 60 people (and growing) who are discussing and collaborating on what’s happened and next steps.

EVEN if you already accepted a payout, you’re still likely entitled to a full payout, commissions, and possibly interest on your card. We’re advised by an attorney that their arbitration clause is very unlikely to be accepted in court due to the circumstances and they type of arbitration.

We’ve already uncovered several deceptive practices that aren’t mentioned elsewhere, like buyers getting different instructions depending on when they signed up. All payout info, legal proceedings, and other updates are being posted here:

Just wanted to share a (warning) DP related to Pinehurst.

My orders came in three different shipments for this, and they were all “postmarked” by May 13 like they wanted. The last one I sent was the four-coin set but FedEx’s tracking got delayed after the fact.

After the coins arrived, they waited almost the whole week to reach out to me and tell me they weren’t going to pay me for it because FedEx’s tracking showed it being shipped after May 13. After I showed receipts and several other things proving it was shipped on time, and even had FedEx confirm for them that it was “postmarked” on May 13 like they wanted, the customer service manager said they weren’t going to pay me and I had to pay return shipping to take the coins back. She suggested that I sue them in small claims court if I didn’t like it.

Obviously this hasn’t been a normal situation with them in the past, but I wanted to share my most recent experience because it’s been a huge hassle (to say the least).

Thanks for the DP. This is surprising, as I’ve had nothing but pleasant interactions with them so far.

My experience with the last 2 deals is that they have been much slower at issuing checks. Usually had a check in hand within a week of them receiving my package. But the latest 2 deals – gold eagles and silver proof coins it took them over a week to even confirm my shipments were received and then multiple weeks until the check arrived. My last check arrived just 4 days before a $15k credit card payment was due. Was starting to get a bit sweaty looking at that bill.

Locked in PFS. Coins delivered Monday, shipped Tuesday morning. Delivered this (Thursday) morning. Account credited later in the afternoon. Awaiting cash out (options: PayPal – they warned about 1099-Ks or eCheck). Went the latter. Shouldn’t run into issues depositing it in person at a branch, but seem to have lucked out with this one (beginner’s luck perhaps).

Thanks for the heads up on JMB!
I checked in with some local buyers hoping to avoid the risk of shipping.

Ultimately, I decided to go with JMB.

This afternoon, I locked in as the premium was rising, and I also purchased their insured shipping label.

This is my 1st time dealing with JMB – so far, communication has been great via phone / email.

Will ship the package tomorrow – hope all goes smoothly from here!

If you don’t mind sharing, why JMB over Apmex?

Does US Mint ask for a reason why for the return – or is it “no questions asked” so long as it’s within the 7-day window?

This was the price I was given as well. I know I said in an above comment I was going to just return it, but when I went to post office with the US Mint USPS preprinted label, they wanted to charge about $80 for the insurance. This Price difference was enough for me to go back home and sell it to JMB instead.

Spot price is up from last week so hopefully you’ll get a better premium than I did.

Coin Set arrived 1-day earlier than expected on Monday AM.
I alerted JMB – they checked it in and credited my account (ACH) same day.
By Tuesday AM, $ was available in my account.

Super smooth process, great communication throughout.

CC CB took some of the sting out of the loss – taking that into account, my loss came to a little less than $80. Just glad to have this behind me.

I think the other known leads mentioned here have left the building – someone correct me if I’m wrong.

I’m feeling anxious about returns. It seems shipping may be suffering more delays, and with delays may come more risks. And in a worst case scenario, I’m not sure how reliable insurance will be.

For that reason, I may look into local sellers.

Interested in hearing other ideas / leads / experience with returns.

When I returned a coin summer 2021, it took the US Mint over a month to credit my CC after it was recieved by them. Of course, I lost out on the cost of insurance to send it back.

To be fair, Pinehurst hung in there the longest out of all the other known buyers.

Other buyers cancelled earlier, or severely cut their price.

Pinehurst could’ve easily done the same after the 21-days were up from when the PO was created. But they maintained their premium and generously extended the deadline.

It’s just truly, truly unfortunate how shipping and PO cancellation coincided in this case.

When you say unfortunate, I call it very well timed by a company that controls exactly when its own offer ends and knows more about the when coins are shipping than we do

Anyone else have experience disputing a US Mint charge on their CC due to non delivery of goods in the timeline expected?

If you dispute the charge with the US Mint, it will take 1-2 or more billing cycles to be re-imbursed, which is f’in ridiculous.

JL
JL (@guest_1380397)
May 12, 2022 22:21

That “1-2 or more billing cycles” refers to a “CERTIFICATE OF NON-RECEIPT” situation. Thanks for pointing that out, I added clarification in my other comment about that particular situation.

As for returns, I was just reading about that on the US MInt website:
Excerpt:

**************
“ Return Policy

If for any reason within 7 days of receiving your product you are dissatisfied with your purchase, you can return the entire product for refund. Shipping charges will not be refunded for all returns.

The United States Mint will not accept partial returns nor will it issue partial refunds. For example, if you receive a United States Mint Silver Proof Set™ where one coin is in unacceptable condition, you must return the entire Proof Set, not just the one coin, to receive a refund.

The United States Mint reserves the right to limit or refuse a return or to charge a fee for excessive returns. In addition, the Mint reserves the right to suspend accounts of customers with a pattern of excessive returns.

To return your product, you may visit your Order History and initiate a return online or Contact Customer Service.

For your protection, we strongly recommend that you return your order by insured mail and save the receipt for your records. The United States Mint is not responsible for lost return shipments.”
**************

Concerned about the case where the shipment does get lost, and if we need to wait for insurance to investigate and approve / deny the claim.

At any rate, a RETURN will entail cost of shipping + insurance, plus handling the CC charge either by paying in full or eating the interest until refunded.

Just an unfortunate timing of the shipping + PO cancellation, ugh.

May 12, 2022 14:58

This is getting weirder by the day…

At first, I thought the same as you (that the Fri 5/13 deadline meant Pinehurst needed coins in-hand by then).

So I emailed them this past Tuesday evening saying there was no way I was going to meet the deadline since I didn’t receive the coins in time (I would have needed coins in hand Wednesday to get them to Pinehurst on Friday).

Wednesday morning, Pinehurst said it would cancel my P.O. then.

But by then I saw that my CC was charged in the middle of the night.

So Wednesday, after some emails, Pinehurst clarified that so long as I had a SHIP DATE on or before Friday 5/13, the PO would be honored.

So I think I’m on easy street since the US Mint sent a Shipping Confirmation on Wednesday @ 7:22pm. And I chose Next Day Delivery.

Unfortunately – the tracking link is stuck on “Label Created – The delivery date will be provided as soon as possible.“

Hope you are having better luck than I am!

I just got off the phone with the US Mint in case anyone else is in SHIPPING LIMBO from the US Mint:

From the day the coin is shipped from the US Mint, and if that coin is not received by the Buyer in a timely manner, then the US Mint has 30 days to file a claim with UPS.

So the timeline would be:

(1) Buyer does not receive coin and reports it to US Mint.
(2) US Mint files the claim with UPS.
(3) It takes 4-6 weeks for that claim to be reviewed.
(4) If approved, it will take 3-5 business days for the Buyer’s CC to be credited.

According to the rep I spoke with, it could even take up to 2 months end-to-end (i.e. from the time the Buyer reports it to US Mint, to the time the Buyer’s CC is credited).

So the Buyer’s on the hook for the price of coin(s) for
1-2 (or more) CC billing cycles.

CORRECTION/CLARIFICATION TO MY ABOVE COMMENT – – that timeline refers to the following situation (excerpt from US MINT website):
“Certificate of Non-Receipt:
If your order did not arrive, or arrived with missing products, please fill out and return the attached Certificate of Non-Receipt (CNR) within 30 calendar days after the order shipment date. When we receive your CNR, we will review your claim and provide resolution within six weeks.”
