@konorth let us know that Office Depot/Max’s are currently stocking $500 Visa & Mastercard gift cards, this is great news as a lot of credit cards earn at a high rate on office supply stores and it’s generally much easier and cheaper to liquidate $500 cards rather than multiple $200 gift cards. Staples are also now stocking $300 gift cards online, so obviously this is a profitable niche for office supply stores to be in (also evidenced by the fact of frequent gift card deals at those merchants).
In terms of fees, these cards are supposed to come with $5.95 in fees. That being said PointsToPointsBÂ (who blogs at the awesome Travel Codex blog) tweeted that he was able to purchase four $500 cards (maximum allowed in one transaction) and was charged $15.80 in fees which works out to be $3.95 per $500 card.
