Office Depot/Max Now Selling $500 Visa & Mastercard Gift Cards

@konorth let us know that Office Depot/Max’s are currently stocking $500 Visa & Mastercard gift cards, this is great news as a lot of credit cards earn at a high rate on office supply stores and it’s generally much easier and cheaper to liquidate $500 cards rather than multiple $200 gift cards. Staples are also now stocking $300 gift cards online, so obviously this is a profitable niche for office supply stores to be in (also evidenced by the fact of frequent gift card deals at those merchants).

In terms of fees, these cards are supposed to come with $5.95 in fees. That being said PointsToPointsB (who blogs at the awesome Travel Codex blog) tweeted that he was able to purchase four $500 cards (maximum allowed in one transaction) and was charged $15.80 in fees which works out to be $3.95 per $500 card.

chuck,
Did you find any of these $500 Visa GCs in any officedepot in VA/MD/DC?
I could not find any GCs.

My findings:

• South-west Ohio area OfficeMax
• 6 variable load Metabank VGCs in stock
• Limit of $2,000 per transaction.
• VGCs were not on the normal display but on a new, holiday-themed display in the middle of the store.
• I chatted up the store manager who was helping me check out and he said that these will only be around for the holidays
• Manager confirmed that Office Depot should have them as well.
• The manager was unfazed when I paid with my Ink Plus but as always YMMV.
• Unloaded via KATE no problem

Most OMs have been raided by now. It’s hit or miss.

I tried to purchase the card, the cashier tried to ring it up and it came back on the register cash only. At first she thought because it was a reloadable but when I told her it was prepaid she tried again still didn’t work. she checked and she said they just changed the requirements and she cant override it

I tried to buy a variable load metabank VGC at my local OfficeMax and it would not ring up either. Not coded in the system.

Apart from retail purchase, Loading to Serve or getting a Money order, is there any other way to liquidate these gift cards?
Are there any other prepaid cards apart from Serve you can load GCs to?

Sadly the local OM in this town is closing. Didn’t find any VGC or MGC of more than $100 denomination today.

My OM had the Mastercard variables $20-500 but I didn’t try to purchase one until I learn if the MC cards will work at Walmart for Serve or MOs. Any knowledge?

The variable load Mastercards sold at OM will not work for loading Bluebird as they are processed as a credit card, not a debit card.
