Update: Looks like some Texas business don’t have this exclusion.
Office Max/Depot’s 2% Rewards program can only earn rewards on up to $200 in third-party gift cards per quarter ($4 in rewards) and up to $50 in Office Depot/Max gift cards per quarter ($1 in rewards).
Office Max/Depot’s new rewards program is now available nationwide. It earns a flat 2% on all purchases, including OD/OM gift cards and third-party gift cards. Previously it was only available in select markets, and it’s rolled out nationwide as of today.
Unfortunately, as part of the national rollout, they capped rewards on gift cards and the like:
- 3rd party gift cards capped at $200 in spend per quarter
- Office Depot/Max gift cards capped at $50 in spend per quarter
- Postage capped at $75 in spend per quarter
In the end, there’s a max of $4 in rewards per quarter for third-party gift card purchases, which really isn’t much. This limit is being enforced already.
Visa/MC/Amex gift cards should earn rewards as well, as had been the case in the past, subject to the $200 max. I’m not sure if VIP members will earn 5% on the $200 in gift cards, but I’d guess so.
Hat tip to commenters who let us know about this change
One Small Exception to this Rule: It would appear that the Dallas-Texas market still has a slight different program (terms updated July 1, 2017) read:
Membership Eligibility
The Program is only available in the Dallas, Texas market area. The Program is only available to businesses that 1) have an existing account, or create a new account, on OfficeDepot.com; 2) are existing members of, or enroll in, the Office Depot® OfficeMax® Rewards Everything Program available only in the Dallas market area; 3) have a valid business name and associated address; and 4) enroll in the Program (“Members”). Click here for the participating stores in the Dallas market area.
______
Rewards
– Members earn 5% back on ink, toner, paper and copy/print/ship and 2% back on everything else.
– Rewards are earned on the final price paid at checkout for an item or service, excluding tax and delivery fees, after all discounts are applied and after deducting the value of any reward and/or merchandise certificates/cards applied to that purchase.
________
Notice the language missing from that first bullet under Rewards.
Oooh interesting.
Are you saying we should all move to Dallas Texas?
yes. lol.
Being based in Denver boy am I glad I finished up my spend for the year a few days ago. I was more nervous that this would get hit really hard but I guess OD preempted that from happening.
What is the $750 max you speak of?
It’s $200 max. Might have been a typo there in one place in the post for a few minutes that you saw.
Oh, I see, fixed now
$200? That’s it? You can’t buy a darn thing for $4 at OM anyways that isn’t cheaper elsewhere. A joke of a rewards program before it even started.
Wow.. If you are a VIP Member and have Chase Ink+, this can be a good deal to buy one $200 GC every quarter 🙂

“2% rewards on everything, and we mean everything” … well, everything before your second purchase of the quarter.
At least we found out there are no real rewards before going through a quarter of spend.
yep. better now than later.
Well this opportunity ended before it even began…

Great news for those who actually do regular spend because it will only sustain the program for much longer as oppose to shut it down cause of MSers!
yes. and there should be less difficulty finding cards in stock. still wish the limit was a bit higher though.
