OneVIP Serve Card to Stop Applications in 2018

Amex sent out an email to OneVIP Serve members letting that know that beginning in January 2018 they won’t be accepting any new applications for OneVIP Serve.

Serve is one of Amex’s prepaid cards, along with Bluebird and REDcard prepaid (you can have one of each of these cards). Within the Serve line, there are numerous flavors, each with it’s own set of advantages.

All this used to matter back in the day when Serve was useful for unloading prepaid Visa and Mastercards at Walmart. Once Amex began shutting down those who do so, Amex prepaid cards became largely irrelevant, though some people apparently still use Serve to unload prepaid cards and others might have one of these prepaid cards to get 5% off at Target or for Amex Offers.

In any case, it sounds like all will remain the same for existing OneVIP Serve cardholders, at least for now. Eventually, I’d expect they’ll convert OneVIP into ordinary Serve card, along with many other changes and consolidations that are likely to occur once Incomm takes over the reins of Amex’s prepaid division in 2018.

OneVIP is the best option out there for a lot of people due to the fact that they waive the monthly fee when $500+ was loaded onto the card that month. For the next few weeks, you can still apply for a OneVIP Serve card here.

i suspect this has happened now. tried loading my VIP this week at two WMs that used to be fee-free and now they’re charging $3.74 or so to load.

Interesting DP. I haven’t loaded my OneVip serve since last month (I have been sticking with loading Bluebird) so I’ll see. I wonder if the cash registers at the Family Dollar and Dollar General might want to begin charging a fee to load automatically.

Guess I should have read comments on here. I have the OneVIP. Loaded tonight at WMNM. $3.74 fee. First time I have used the card to do a reload… the only other use it has seen is to liquidate the ReferLive Visa Debit Cards.

It still has a monthly fee of $1.00 per month (waived with $500 DD or zero balance), so some of the OneVIP terms still apply.

I wonder if DG/FD is free anymore or not?

It seems the best available option for using serve to do credit card loading is applying for a New Blue Serve (since OneVip didn’t accept application anymore). But for the monthly fee, will CC loading waive the New Blue serve’s monthly fee?

My own and my family member’s VIP account are currently not able to load debit card online.

how about your BB? are you still able to load online? if so, 1VIP ‘behaves’ differently than BB then. hmm

Did you try to load it with an actual bank debit card too?

Thanks for the DP. I had made a mental note of your system but never utilized it.

My own VIP account has been in use for months and latest time to load MCGC issued by U.S. bank was about 8-9 days ago – $200. You guys know how that BB/Serve use trial debits to confirm the debit card(regardless it’s a bank card or MCGC). So the trial debits on my MCGC releases after 7-8 days when it was added and that is about $2.20 balance left on the MCGC, I loaded but got the message ” Due to technical difficulties we are unable to process your request at the moment. Please try again at a later time. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

I immediately removed the MCGC and added my bank card to it. Surprisingly, it allowed me to do the debit trials on my bank card and I am able to confirm the two small numbers and have card added, however still not able to add any funds to the VIP account.

After noticing such “change” last night, I did 2 bill pays and it allowed me to do so. This morning when I checked back the status of these 2 bill pays it is already processing rather than submitted. So I think my VIP account is still live but just that the functions of adding money online has been disabled.

On the other hand, I helped my cousin apply his first VIP serve account after reading this post. He was able to add funds online a few days ago, not sure now. But he couldn’t do any bill pays or send money to others since the card arrived and activated.

I can load funds on my other Serve type of accounts: 1% cash back, regular serve, green card. I think BB is fine but haven’t tried that yet.

At least this is not true that they say current members would not be affected. They’re just beginning to limit the function of this VIP account and I have a feeling that this is going to die so soon

could it be because you’ve already max out the 1K limit across ALL your Serve accounts? i believe serve, even though it doesn’t state it on its limits and fees table, is the same as bb. $200/day, 1k/mo *combined for all your bb accounts <- serve doesn't state this but safe to assume it also applies.

It’s not about the limit this time. It’s certainly that VIP not allow me to add any funds online even not reaching the limit yet.

if money can be taken out (bill pay, ach out, atm w/d) but can not load/add money no more, i think that’s what a shutdown serve looks like. im hoping it’s just a glitch though. try to load next month and see if it still behaves the same. keep us posted. thanks for sharing.

How does anyone on a site like this still have a Serve account?

Most people got banned within six months of launch.

I never load VGC at Walmart. I only do debit card load online for max. $1000 per calendar and I’ve been doing this for nearly a year.

Contrary to the previous comment, I applied today and was approved. But I am a noob, so I have never held a Amex prepaid product ever. (Do have one PRG charge card, and one BCP CC). I got a Serve login instantly and says card “sent”. However, I cannot see my AMEX offers until I activate my card. Card expected in 7-10 days, per e-mail.

Hoping to use this to unload some small Visa Netspend prepaid debit cards ($50 each), but sounds like I am a couple years late to the big party. Amex offers will be a plus if I can double dip some.

Netspend debit cards? Let me know if you can unload via Serve. To my understanding, only MCGC issued by U.S. bank can be unloaded there.

Very possible you are correct. Exactly why I don’t
MS. Too many “rules” to remember and all the work arounds that change all the time. I will post an update on my adventures w/ Serve. Amex deals are usually for places that I don’t shop… So my Serve experience may be very short-lived.

looks like they tide up the applications, i just tried to order one for me and my BF, both were declined: not able to approve an account for you at this time. so i guess game over for me, i have 3 bluebirds, 3 one VIP serve at this time, each one average loading 500 to 1000 visa gebit cards monthly, no fee at all.hope it last for a while.

Noob question: If you order 5 Serve cards now will you have to pay the monthly fee starting from the moment it arrives? (Or do you start paying when you activate each account?)

Got the same email for myself. Just open a VIP card account for my cousin today, approved instantly. No chex questions.

I had the serve ISIS (yeah worst name ever). Good old days, so many free points. All my family had the card and I used to go everyweek to walmart. Good old days, thanks to the worst-named prepaid card I paid my honeymoon and a lot more.

I still have my ISIS card and use it regularly!
Just dreading the day TSA searches my wallet and sees it (I also happen to be a brown man).

@RD – LOL

Yes we all long for the good old days of Serve ISIS… I mean they should’ve sued the terror organization for using their trademarked name!!
