The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Plastiq will charge only a 2% fee on all American Express payments using Plastiq

plastiq-2

The Fine Print

  • Submit or schedule a payment for ANY bill.
  • Make sure the “Processing Date” is no later than February 28, 2017. You can see the “Processing Date” when you hover over a date in the calendar.
  • Use an American Express card to make the payment.

Our Verdict

Standard fee is 2.5%, although some Mastercard payments are also only 2%Plastiq also have a referral program, you can read more about that here and also share your links (do not add your referrals in the comments of this post, they will be removed). 2% will be breakeven/loss on most cards unless you highly value points/miles, but could be useful for meeting minimum spend requirements.

Thanks to all the readers that sent this in (too many to list, sorry guys!)

been using plastiq over last few months to pay childcare using PPBDC. 1% plastiq fee and 1% back in PP cashback everymonth. PPBDC is backed by ebay MC so earning cc points on it. Working great. Lately tried loading PP with PPCC using 5% CC. No problems so far. As long as it is a valid bill, its not a problem.

I have opened several credit cards recently. To satisfy the spending in the first three months, I have used Plastiq to pay my rent for the past few months. I usually leave several days buffer and that is working fine.

Just tried to process a plastiq payment. Guess what?

3% (regular chase mastercard)

Their explanation

Non-Canadian Cards
Why am I getting charged a higher rate?
We have done a BIN check with our bank and they are telling us that your card is a non-Canadian card.

As stated on our fee table, any non-Canadian cards paying a business that is located in Canada will get charged a higher rate of .5% on top of the stardard or promo rate.

Hi! I have been using credit cards on Plastiq to pay my kid’s rent for the past few months and it is working fine. I usually leave a 10 day buffer and that is enough. Yesterday, I used an Amex GC and I can verify it works.
If anyone is interested, below is my referral link. You will earn 200 fee-free dollars after your first payment and I will earn 5000 fee-free dollars after you make your first payment so any referrals are appreciated.

I made a payment for my kid’s apartment rent yesterday using an Amex GC and I was only charged 2% so I can verify it works. I have been using credit cards with Plastiq the past few months and the check arrives latest within 10 days. Sometimes it reaches earlier but I keep a 10 day buffer.

Plastiq has turned out to a big disappointment. It seemed too good to be true and it was!

They say, they support payroll.

Yet, after creating numerous recipeints with none of them working, I set up the payment, exactly how they wanted, had the employee create a business profile, used the employees business link as Plastiq demanded, provided all documentation they asked for, employee contracts (offered to send them tax forms, anything they would need).

And yet, Payroll payment is declined and they write

After consideration, our Account Services team decided we will be unable to support payroll payment at this time. We are currently working on a very smooth and effective payroll process that should be ready in a few weeks. Once that’s all set we can let customers know this is an option.

Second bad experience,

CSR (or for that matter all of Chase V) keeps on getting declined, even with the business link, electronic payment, using all of the tricks I saw here in the comments and still doesnt work.

And Plastiq has been very difficult to correspond with and seemingly uninterested in having their actual transactions processed as their transactions are appearing as cash advances.

Datapoint: The actual Plastiq Fee is coded properly and passes through CSR. I simply asked Plastiq to code the actual transaction the same way the Fee is coded, but no, they are uninterested.

I was using Plastiq.ca. I dont know if that makes a difference.

Does anyone know if the SPG personal 30,000 offer is still available? Would love to use Plastiq to meet the min spend on that card.

I’ve noticed if I overpay my USAA Insurance bill they’ll send me a check for the difference.

Don’t want to abuse that though, since they’re my primary bank too.

I wonder if i can do MS with Plastiq.
Lets say me and my friend write checks to each other and then we cash them and pay back the card.
Or we can even send the check straight to the bank for payment or even walk into the branch for credit card payment.
Yea it will cost me 2% but its a fast way to reach minimum spend.
What do you think?

My payment was put on hold and had to provide a copy of the invoice/bill/lease agreement.

This was for property taxes for a large municipality that they don’t send checks to already.

They shut you down based on your register/login IP. I referred a friend of mine so that I could get the free points and he tried to send me a check via that for some service like walking my dog? I don’t have a dog… I don’t even suggest to pay rent with Plastiq. If you have to, try PPBDC so you don’t have to worry about any fees, because 1% compensate their service fee 1% for debit card. Of course you won’t be earning points and miles anyhow. Anyway, I stop using Plastiq long time ago for other issue which is that they don’t let me use prepaid Visa card.
