Bank Account Bonuses

[Expired]Publicly Available: Chase $500 Checking and Savings Bonus

The $500 checking and savings offers from Chase are typically targeted or available for purchase on eBay. There’s now a banner link that’s working to get this offer for anyone. We don’t know how long it will last. You don’t need to complete the offer right now, but go ahead and click the link and get the coupon now, so you’ll have it to use before November 15 when the coupon expires.

  • Maximum bonus amount: $500 ($300 checking & $200 savings)
  • Availability: Nationwide (must open account in branch)
  • Direct deposit required: Yes, no minimum. Click here to view what triggers this bonus.
  • Additional requirements: None for checking; $15,000 balance for savings
  • Hard/soft pull: Soft
  • Credit card funding: Not available when opening in branch
  • Monthly fees: $12, waivable
  • Early account termination fee: Bonus taken back if closed within six months
  • Expiration date: November 15, 2016

The Offer

Direct link to offer

The link will prompt you to sign into your Chase account and will then generate a unique coupon code. You need to print out the coupon and bring it into your local Chase branch to get this offer.

  • Receive a bonus of $300 when you open a Chase Total checking account with $25 or more and have a direct deposit post to the account within 60 days
  • Receive a bonus of $200 when you open a Chase savings account and deposit $15,000 or more in new money within 10 business days and maintain a balance of $15,000 for 90 days

The Fine Print

  • Offer not available to existing Chase checking customers, or those who have had accounts closed in the last 90 days (or with a negative balance)
  • You can receive only one new checking and one new savings account opening related bonus per calendar year and only one bonus per account
  • Bonuses are considered interest and will be reported on IRS Form 1099-INT
  • “Direct deposit must be paycheck, pension or government benefits (such as Social Security) from your employer or the government”
  • Must open account in branch
  • Bonuses will appear within 10 business days of meeting the requirements
  • Interest rate on the Chase savings account is 0.01%

Avoiding Fees

Savings Account

The Chase Savings Account comes with a monthly service fee of $5. Monthly fee is waived with any of the following:

  • Keep a minimum daily balance of $300 or more.
  • Have at least one repeating automatic transfer from your Chase checking account of $25 or more. One time transfers do not qualify.
  • Have a linked Chase Premier Plus Checking, Chase Premier Platinum Checking, or Chase Private Client Checking account.

Checking Account

The Chase Total Checking account comes with a monthly service fee of $10-$12 which is waived if complete any of the following:

  • Have monthly direct deposits totaling $500 or more
  • Keep a minimum daily balance of $1,500 or more in the checking account
  • Keep an average daily balance of $5,000 or more in any combination of qualifying Chase checking, savings and other balances

Early Account Termination Fee

If you close either account within 6 months of account opening, you will forfeit the bonus.

Our Verdict

With these e-mail coupon bonuses, there is only a certain amount of them before they run out – if you’re thinking of doing this deal I’d recommend acting quickly to get the coupon. You’ll then have until November 15 to get to a Chase branch and open the account.

Here’s how I’d go about getting this $500 bonus:

  • Bring the coupon to a local Chase branch and open a Savings and Checking account.
  • Deposit $25 into the checking and $15,000 into the Savings.
  • Get a direct deposit to the Chase checking account. See what has counted for direct deposit in the past here.
  • Wait until the Tuesday after completing the requirements for the bonus to post. (Chase is weird and always posts the bonuses on a Tuesday). If you don’t receive the bonus, use another direct deposit to try and trigger it.
  • Wait 90 days from the date of deposit and transfer over money from savings to checking to bring the balance to $1,500. Then transfer out the remainder of the $15,000 to your regular high-interest savings account, but leave $300 in the Chase savings account. With $1,500 in checking and $300 in savings the account will remain fee-free.
  • Wait until 6 months after the opening date.
  • Withdraw all funds & close the accounts.

You can also choose to just do the checking or just the savings if you prefer for any reason.

Chase bank bonuses are from the best bank bonus around. There is no minimum on the direct deposit requirement, it’s easy to keep the account fee free, and the bonuses are a nice chunk of change. If you’ve never completed a bank bonus before, this is a good one to start with. We’ll be adding this bonus into our list of Best Bank Bonuses.

It’s interesting to note is that the above link is capable of generating multiple unique coupon codes to the same Chase account. So if you want to save a second code for a friend, just click the link a second time to get a second unique code.

Remember to always check your Chase preapproved credit card offers when visiting a Chase branch; you might even get lucky and end up with a Sapphire Reserve preapproval.

  1. JT says:

This $200 Savings bonus is nice. What I’d really like to get is the $500 for the Premier with an expiration date just past January 1, 2017.

  2. Master Allan says:

Oh no, credit card funding not available in a branch? I thought the limit was $500 and I was planning on opening an account Saturday perfect for a minimum spend requirement.

  3. Vijay says:

If someone cannot able to get this coupon, email me at and I can email you the coupon code for free. I’ve downloaded about 75 coupon codes just for our community use.

  4. Jeff H says:

I cannot hang out $15000 anywhere right now. I have a home for sale. May consider it after the closing of the home sale. Any idea how long the deal will be available after printing the coupon?

  5. FB says:

Thx for the notice Chuck. Ironically, I just bought one from ebay for $2.99
and was planning on opening a new checking account this week..

  6. Joe says:

The savings account. Requires a special tier of checking acct?

    • Chuck says:

I’m not understanding the question. Can you clarify?

      • joe says:

Reading comprehension problems when I’m tired.

Hey so if my wife and I have a joint checking account at chase (too bad because we miss out on the checking account bonuses), can we EACH open a separate $15K savings account and each get the $200 bonus? g

        • Chuck says:

It might be that NEITHER of you can do it since you both are already on a joint account. But I can’t say for sure.

You can each do one Savings bonus if you don’t currently have a savings account.

          • KJP says:

I’m joint on my dad’s accounts (checking and savings) but his name is first and mine is second (so interest gets reported under his SSN). Chase banker said I could open new checking account and new savings account as primary and get the bonuses. Now that you posted this offer I’ll give it a try.

          • joe says:

we have a joint checking I am assuming that neither of us can do the checking account bonus, but would i be right that we should both be able to do the savings account?

          • KJP says:

Follow up to my earlier comment. You are correct – the new codes don’t work if you already have an account regardless of whether you are listed primary or secondary. I tried this weekend and it was a no go. Chase banker said it used to work.

    • Michael says:

No special checking required. The basic checking will do (for it’s own bonus too), but with the dollar amount in savings ~ 15k, you’ll be encouraged to sign up for the next level checking if you go with the savings bonus at the same time.

Data point from doing exact same thing last Friday in-branch.

  7. captainsave says:

Will wellsfargo ACH count as DD for the checking requirement?

  8. raj says:

    Quick Question.

I have a chase credit card account and my wife do not.

To see this offer i have to log in in my chase account. I logged in twice and got two different coupon code. Can i use one for my checking account and one for my wife.

OR are the coupon code ONLY apply to me?

  9. Roberta says:

Can you open up a business checking & savings account and get the bonus or does it all have to be a personal account?

Thank you for your site. I just found it and will be using it for my #1 place of knowledge.

  10. Himalaya says:

When I click on the direct link, I see “Get Up to $500” appear in the tab while the page is loading, but when it finishes loading, it ends up at the login screen. I tried deleting cookies, then I tried opening it in Firefox. Same thing. Anyone else having this problem?

  11. Himalaya says:

    Nevermind. Figured it out.

  12. DSP says:

Is Chase known to match $300 from the $150 offer?

  13. PD says:

My husband once got an offer for $300 to open the savings account. He already had the checking, CSP, and Freedom. They had initially emailed him $200 offers that he didn’t use, and then got the $300.

I’m in a similar situation but only ever was sent the $200 offers.

Anyone have any insight into this?

  14. David says:

If I started a business checking to get the $500 last month can I still get the $300 for opening a personal account?

  15. HZ says:

We don’t have branch near by in South New Jersey. Can I open this online or over phone?
If yes – any link or phone number?

  16. howard says:

is it possible to have two Chase checking accounts?

  17. Stephen says:

Are you sure this is Nationwide? About 2 years back, I tried a few times to open an account from Kansas and then Iowa and neither worked as it didn’t allow people from those states. Has this changed?

  18. zd says:

Seems like Chase is flagging incoming ACH transfers as P2P (not bonus worthy). Any idea if there is an ACH method that will still trigger the $300 bonus?

    • Chuck says:

Most ACH used to work. Even if it says P2P, I wouldn’t discount the possibility that it will work without a data point to that effect.

    • Steve says:

ACH push from CapOne360 shows as:

This is the exact same coding as my employer DD to this account. The bonus triggered from a push from my CapOne360 account before my employer DD was even setup.

You will know soon enough if the ACH counts because the bonus is paid within 10 days.

  19. FB says:

One year ago, Alliant did not trigger the bonus. When I saw that it didn’t work,
I used a real dd a couple weeks later, then the bonus posted.

  20. Angie says:

I did this back in July for the savings and my bonus didn’t post. I just realized it now. Should I go in branch to ask or can I call Chase? Thanks.

    • FB says:

The bonus isn’t due yet. Even if you opened the account July 1st, the bonus
isn’t due until ten business days after you’ve completed the ninety day term.

  21. jz says:

I received bonus for saving account in 2015 and closed the acccount in January 2016. Can I still get the bonus for opening saving account now?

  22. Jordan L says:

    Hey Will, Chuck,

Might be worth a mention that with 15k in the savings account you automatically meet the requirements of Chase Plus Savings and Premier Plus Checking. No huge benefit to the plus savings, but the plus checking gets you free checks, free 3″x5″ safe deposit box rent, and free counter checks.

You can of course order the free checks and downgrade the account after 3 months when you pull the 15k out. Not sure about the safe deposit box – if the “rent” is waived all up front for the whole year or if you would start getting billed after downgrading the account monthly. If the former, kind of a cool option since you have to park 15k anyway.

  23. joe says:

if you have a checking account and add just a savings account…. is there a chex inquiry?

  24. Lucas says:

    Hi Chuck,

Just one question here. I have ssn but without dd. Can I let one of my family members to direct deposit one-month payroll into my newly opened chase total checking account to trigger the bonus? Just curious about this. Any possible risks associate with this activity?

    • Vijay says:

I’ve opened several accounts for my wife and made my DD’s go in to her accounts and I never saw her with any issues getting the bonus. YMMV.

    • Chuck says:

Hmm, my guess is that from Chase’s end it’s risk free since I don’t think they’ll see who deposited the fund. From employer’s end, you’d have to check with them if they are okay dd into someone else’s account.

      Sorry for delayed reply.

  25. Eric says:

Just a warning… I tried to take advantage of this bonus by depositing 15k at one time into my savings account. Chase’s fraud team froze my account and made me go in branch w/ 2 photo ID’s to reinstate.

    • FB says:

Chase has a “freeze account” fetish. They froze my account a couple
years ago after linking an external bank. My branch is two hours away!

    • PMD says:

You are supposed to open the account in a branch. They *prefer* you deposit the $15k at the time the account is opened in person. When you ACH it in, the fraud alerts very often go off at Chase. They will also put a lengthy hold on initial deposits.

Another cool data point. Since the Great Recession in 2008-9, Chase has hated me. They unilaterally slashed my two Freedom card lines to toy limits ($2k and 1.1k from what used to be $25k and $16k).

Had a 776 FICO score, no lates ever, not unreasonable utilization. They would have none of it, and the card limits have stayed the same ever since. When I applied for the checking/savings, the pre-qualifier on Chase’s website continued to NEVER pre-approve me for anything from them. Not once in several years, and nothing to trigger the Chase auto-deny for too many new accounts.

About three weeks after opening the checking and savings, it was pre-approval bonanza for Chase Slate and Chase Sapphire Preferred. The new checking and savings had to be responsible for this. Therefore, taking advantage of this offer may help your relationship with Chase quite a lot. It did for me.

  26. scooter says:

Where is the banner link? TY

  27. Shawn says:

I really need to remove my wife from our Chase account or maybe just close it so we are both ready for the next time this bonus comes around. Is there a benefit to having the same checking account for a long time? Does it look bad on my credit report if I’m constantly opening/closing checking accounts?

  28. Jeff H says:

I must have missed it. What is the APR interest on the savings account absent the bonus? $15000 can be expensive to park.for 1.33 per cent APR

  29. Pat says:

Suppose I follow DoC’s advice and start by depositing $25 into the checking, and $15000 into savings. Will I incur fees on the checking account for those first 90 days? I see the terms say:
“Keep an average daily balance of $5,000 or more in any combination of qualifying Chase checking, savings and other balances”.
Do these accounts count as “qualifying”?

  30. Eric says:

Data point – opened new account under $150 offer on 9/6/16 while traveling, since no branches anywhere near me. Tried secure message to match to new offer, but was denied since bonus has already posted.

  31. Old Flyer says:

Does the DD have to be every month? My wife works as a substitute teacher, but can only work 1 or 2 more pay periods for DD. Does the DD have to be every month for 3 – 6 months, or will one DD qualify?

  32. PMD says:

Barclays Online Savings account worked well for this bonus and it coded as:

10/05 BARCLAYS BANK DE DEPOSIT PPD ID: 96XXXXX1 ACH credit 501.00
10/11 *Pending* $300 for New Checking Misc. credit 300.00

Setting Barclays up was tremendously easy, but they love to put week-long holds on deposits. Maybe this one will let Key Bank trigger. I tried Paypal and Bluebird so far and nothing yet.

  33. joe says:

Quick question on the calendar year requirement. I opened a chase savings account in 2015 (same deal) but didn’t receive the bonus until early 2016. If I open the account now, will I be eligible? I won’t receive the bonus until 2017. Or should I just wait?

  34. Jeremy Henderson says:

Bummer, I live in VA and the nearest branch is in NJ. I think I’m good on this one lol

    • Dave says:

Roadtrip! ..Yeah, my branch is two hours away. With a quick stop for lunch and another stop for sightseeing, it’s an all day affair.

  35. Brandon B says:

I don’t have any branches near me (MN). I was travelling this weekend and stopped in a branch near closing time. Since they closed in 3 minutes, they weren’t willing to open the account for me. However, I talked to a banker about it and he said if I open the account online, I can then call him and he can add the bonus code up to 7 days after account opening.

    Anyone have experience with this?

    • Michael says:

      From MN too.

I just made the time one day to go into a branch in WI (Stevens Pt. is closest).

Well worth the visit as I brought my wife with me as well. We both got Chase checking bonuses and I’m working on savings too. Icing on the cake was we both were approved for CSR even though way over 5/24.

Didn’t try anything online, but that would be cool if it worked. Banker I worked with didn’t make it sound like they are able to open they’re accounts online. But I may be wrong.

      • PMD says:

This promotion cannot be done online. That discourages non-serious participation because going into the bank and spending an hour opening two accounts and being probed about your finances is a deterrent for some people. Not for me.

If you didn’t care about the promo, you can open online.

  36. Paul says:

ACH push from Fidelity triggered bonus.

    10/9 Opened account
    10/14 $12 deposit from Fidelity
    10/18 $300 bonus

  37. Dave says:

Charles Schwab brokerage didn’t work for me even though it coded as PPD.

  38. Smitty says:

DP: I just changed my address with USPS and got the same offer as here, only with a deadline of 11/30.

  39. Jeff H says:

We went into a Chase branch for the checking and savings account promos. One family member was a bit short for the Chase $500 Checking and Savings Bonus from the Doc. She got the DoC’s Checking bonus for $300.00 and $150.00 for a $10000.00 savings account public offer for a total bonus of $450.00 Bonus. Banker accepted both coupons.
Different offer also used in this combo:

  40. PMD says:

Beware of check orders with Chase. If you enroll in a premium checking account that offers your first order of checks free, Chase’s version of free is $27.95 charged to your account (in my case my SAVINGS account) bringing the balance below $15,000 which cancels your savings bonus followed a day later with a credit for $27.95 for the checks that should have been free for the first place.

I caught this this morning and marched into a branch to have a chat.

    1) Admission #1: Deluxe, Chase’s check printer, is not consistent about which account they “bill” the check order to about 10 days after it is placed. Chase is supposed to recognize the charge and then subsequently credit it back to your account if you have one that offers free checks. That process can take a day or two later, however. It is supposed to be billed to your checking account (and then credited) but in this case, they nailed the savings account. I was told a credit would appear the following day.

    2) Admission #2: This does invalidate the $200 savings bonus if you opened the account with $15k and the balance drops below that amount as recorded by Chase’s reconciliation at the end of the day.

    3) Admission #3: Charges and fees initiated or managed by Chase listed as pending that overdraw any checking account (not in my case) will pull funds from savings, potentially bringing your balance below $15k and invalidating your bonus.

The Chase banker said the best way to manage any overdraft or balance drop that could affect a bonus is to hurry to the bank and deposit cash to make up the difference before the end of the day on which your balance drops. ATM or online banking deposits have stricter cut off times so see a teller. If at the end of the day Chase shows your balance is back at or above $15k, everything is fine (same for an overdraft where the balance transfer from savings will completely disappear if you bring your checking balance above the amount they transferred).

Word to the Wise: Don’t do this bonus without creating a cushion for bank errors, unexpected charges, etc. Keep $100 in checking minimum at all times and deposit $15100 in savings, for just in case situations, especially if you plan to have checks sent or take advantage of any other Chase services that are “conveniently” billed automatically to your account. You can never be certain which account will get the hit.

  41. Jab says:

Went into branch and spent good hour and a half, be ready for this.
If you’re non citizen, bring all paperwork that can identify you.
For initial deposit at branch they require check or debit card. Mininum you have to put $50
I decided to fund later and had to speak with fraud prevention, so better to fund at branch.
Be sure to opt out of checks order, because they are not free.

Special thanks to Vijay for code.

  42. MC says:

Haven’t received bonus yet, feel like I should have?

    Opened w/ $40 cash: 10/11
    Cap360 $500 ACH posted: 10/18

Still no bonus. I’ve since posted another $500 from Cap360 and will also try Ally. Here is what I’m getting for the 360 ACH deposit:

    ACH credit

Feels like others have said Cap360 should still work as early as late September? Thinking about calling to see if the promo was correctly added to my account.

    • Bonus should post the Tuesday after a qualifying direct deposit is received so looks like Capital One 360 isn’t working anymore. I wouldn’t call, just try something else. Report back if something else triggers it!

    • MC says:

So I ended up getting the bonus, but because I used a Barclays Saving account. Here is the list & timing of the transactions I did:

      Opened w/ $40 cash: 10/11
      Cap360 $500 ACH posted: 10/18
      2nd Cap360 $500 ACH posted: 10/27
      Ally $500 P2P posted: 11/8
Barclays Saving $501 ACH posted: 11/28
      $300 offer posted: 12/6

And here are the codes that were associated with each bank transaction:

      ACH credit

      ALLY BANK P2P **** WEB ID: #########
      ACH credit

      ACH credit

$300 for New Checking Misc. credit

  43. Jeff H says:

Chase $300.00 checking bonus posted this morning 10 days after opening the checking account in Chase branch and a week after Fidelity ACH DD. I tend to doubt the Well’s Fargo ACH DD trial balances under a dollar counted, but that also happened the same day as the Fidelityi ACH DD.

    • Jeff H says:

Chase posting Savings Account Bonus today .. account opened Nov 21, 2016.
Now I can pay Freedom crazyness from Christmas with this money.

  44. Roberta says:

Coast Hills Federal Credit Union $50 F1 to F1 Transfer to Chase account worked. Posted as an ACH.

Coast Hills took about 5 days to post after transfer set up, $300 credit after a Tuesday batching is pending this morning (Wed) in Chase Account.

  45. John Smith says:

My payroll DD posted last Friday and I don’t see the bonus yesterday or today. It should post next week or did I do something wrong?

  46. toknowjoyman says:

When I sign in, i get a temporarily unavailable note in the code box of the offer page. Maybe it has to do with the fact i had a chase account earlier..

  47. T says:

How long does it take for the savings bonus to kick in? 10 days after the deposit has cleared or 90 days later?

  48. Ivan says:

A deposit from Barclays Savings has just worked for me as DD for the $300 Chase checking bonus.

    Nov 8, 2016 Pending – $300 for New Checking Misc. credit – $300.00

  49. strema says:

    10/22 Opened account
    10/26 Alliant ACH
    11/1 Employer DD
    11/8 $300 bonus

Looks like Alliant did not trigger the bonus.

  50. Jason says:

Extended to 1/19/2017 now, see this link:

  51. tzvi s says:

my brother got a coupon addressed to him can i walk into chase and use that coupon?

  52. dizzy says:

Any way to do this without banking in person? Not in the US until end of April

  53. Patti says:

If I log in to print out a coupon for a friend, does the bank give them a hard time while in branch when they realize the friend does not have a Chase log in?
We grabbed this offer back in July and I’d like to pass a coupon along but I don’t want to embarrass her or have her make the 30 min drive for nothing.

  54. JASON says:

Dad’s & Mom’s individual account open on 11/5 in branch with coupon codes, initial cash deposit 11/7 at ATM, Barclays saving account push $149 on 11/14 (last Monday), Bonus $300 posted today 11/22 (the following Tuesday)

6 months, that is end of May 2017, floating $1500 is easy.

  55. Nick says:

If the account balance is $0 (already withdrew the bonus) and I close before the 6 months, can they still charge me the penalty?

  56. Chap says:

    Link seems dead?

  57. David says:

I made a deposit/opened an account June 7th of this year. If i close it on the 9th of Dec, is that considered “within 6 months”?

  58. John says:

Using barclays savings account transfered to new chase checking triggered direct deposit. Took 5 business days but it’s showing bonus now.

  59. Chap says:

Confirming Barclay ACH to Chase still counts as DD (1/24/17). Bonus posted as usual on a Tuesday.

  60. Victor says:

Confirming Barclay ACH to Chase still counts as DD (2/07/17).

  61. John says:

I got a call from Chase bank today saying the bank to bank transfer from my Barclays Savings account made on 2/24/17 won’t be counted as direct deposit. Anyone else got the similar experience?

    • Dave says:

Just out of curiosity. Why would you ask them if a Bank to Bank transfer counts as direct deposit? I’m pretty sure they will give you the list of what they consider direct deposit. Such as Govt. work etc.. 9/10 every bank will tell you this even if a method counts as DD

      • John says:

Thank you for your reply. I didn’t ask the bank if a Bank to Bank transfer counted as direct deposit. It was the Chase Bank that called me right after they received my Direct Deposit (showing online as pending) on 2/27, after I push it into Chase from Barclays on 2/24. And the following Tuesday (2/28), I did not received the expected bonus.

    • Patti says:

Did you actually ASK them if it would count? They are not going to help you circumvent the rules.
Did you push it to Chase from Barclays or pull it i to your Chase account?
If the transfer is initiated by Chase then of course it wouldn’t be viewed as a dd.

      • John says:

No, Patti, actually I did not say anything about what it counts as DD because I know it and don’t think they would give me any useful information about it. I pushed the deposit into Chase from Barclays on 2/24.

I read on the Chase website that it takes 10 business days after it has been posted for the bonus to be credited. Meaning if you pushed Barclays ACH and it posted on Chase on 2/24/17 then you should see the bonus on your account by 3/9/17 or 3/10/17. I’m also surprised that they called you to tell you that Barclays won’t count as DD. To my knowledge they don’t usually call people to notify them account activity. Anyways, If my Wells Fargo ACH doesn’t come through this week. I’ll do a Barclays ACH and post my results here.

I guess Wells Fargo ACH worked because right after Chase called on 2/27 that the Barclays Bank would not be counted DD, I made WFG DD and was pushed into Chase on 3/2, I got the $300 bonus on 3/8. Done. One explanation is WFG worked!

    • JuicyJosh says:

Thanks for the DP! I am sure a lot of us happen to have a WF account due to recent events. Sure beats the real DD route. Linking now. Thanks again!

Wells Fargo ACH worked! Got $300 for Chase new total checking. Moving coupon 300+200.

      1. Log onto Wells Fargo online account and find the “transfer” tab. Not the “send” tab, which you use an email/phone to send and receive money, not this one.
      2. Find “add a non-wells fargo account”, and enter your chase account and routing numbers.
      3. Wait for Wells Fargo to do trial deposits, usually in one biz day.
      4. Log onto Chase and find out the amount of trial deposites. Then go back to Wells Fargo “transfer” and “add non…” and you will see your Chase account pending verification.
      5. Enter the trial deposites amount. Then it is verified.
      6. Transfer some money (I pushed $500) from Wells Fargo to Chase.
      7. Chase posts the transaction as “Wells Fargo DDA to DDA PPD”.
      8. Wait a few days and you will see the $300. I got it a week plus one day later.

How would I do WF ACH to my spouse’s chase account to trigger DD Bonus? I guess WF is allowing ACH to only to our own account in other banks. any thoughts!!!

Note: My WF to my Chase ACH worked to trigger the DD.

    • JTM says:

After calling Wells Fargo, it sounds like the check box saying “I am the owner of this non-Wells Fargo account.” is only due to the fact that Wells Fargo will make a few small deposits to verify the account, so if you can log in and see how much the deposits are, your set.

      • Ven says:

I tried, but trail deposit verification is failed from WF to Chase, saying not able to find the account.

I have already received chase bonus. If i join as co-joine to my spouse Chase account would that work? or chase will reject the bonus saying I have already received a bonus (my own account) in same year?

        • JTM says:

I asked Chase about joint accounts and Chase will Reject one of the bonus’s if it is joint, do NOT do a joint account. Maybe you could double check you account numbers, or do the Direct deposit another way like with Fidelity… I was able to do both his and her’s vitrification deposits from one Wels Fargo account.

          • Ven says:

Thank you very much for the info, I will not go in joint account route. Will try again to add my spouse account in my WF. If it won’t work, as a backup I am planning to open Barclays Savings account for her.

    • S says:

When you add external account to WF, it generates trial deposit, correct? Does that trigger bonus or do you actually have to transfer the money?

      • Rich says:

The trial deposits did not trigger the bonus for me.

And unfortunately, I closed the WF account before I realized that the IRS DD was no longer working either. 🙁

  64. Ven says:

As I mentioned in above posts, I was struggling to make a transaction which can trigger the bonus, not sure what happened she just received $300 bonus, but following info could be a new DP for Chase DD which triggers the bonus.

    Mar 6, 2017 – Account opened
Mar 13, 2017 – IRS TREAS 310 TAX REF PPD ID: xxxxxxxxxx ACH credit > $500
Mar 21, 2017 – DIGITAL FEDERAL PEOPLE PAY Ven XXXXXLA WEB ID: Z39113450 ACH credit, just $5
Mar 22, 2017 – Chase QuickPay Electronic Transfer 698675629 from VEN XXXXXLA QuickPay credit, $501
Mar 28, 2017 – $300 for New Checking, got the bonus

As per existing DPs, IRS won’t be considered as DD. So not sure which transaction triggered the bonus 🙂
