The Fine Print

  • Must spend $100+ on Raise Pay brands by 11/18/18 11:59 PM CST to qualify.
  • Total amount spent must be greater than or equal to $100 after any previously earned Raise Cash has been applied.
  • $10 in Raise Cash will be deposited on or before 11/20/18 11:59 PM CST and expires after 180 days.

Our Verdict

I got this as an email offer. It looks to me like a public offer since I see it even not logged in, but I’m not 100% sure about that. The $10 bonus does not show clearly at checkout, I assume it’ll show up afterward. It’s possible a portal will work for Raise Pay purchases, it’s worth going through one if you haven’t maxed out your lifetime limits.

Dont use Raise. lately we have had our gc numbers stolen, 1 digital the other physical. we dont know how it could have happened. firstly, the balance checked out fine when we first got it. but when we tried to use it in a few days or weeks later, the balance was drained. raise wudn’t refund. there’s some kind of inside job going on. beware that their complaints have risen quite a bit on bbb recently.

You tried under their 1 year guarantee and didn’t get a refund? I have always gotten a refund when the gift card didn’t work. If they didn’t honor their guarantee I would file a dispute with your CC.

Thanks for the warnings about the inside job though. I thought they changed it to reference CARD ID’s to prevent employees from seeing the gift card numbers. Did this change recently?

if you search for their complaints online, you will notice that this was mentioned by other buyers and that the number of complaints have gone up quite a bit this year (not just the invalid card issue, but also other customer related). for us, there was no problems getting refunds until lately. employees have access to the original card info, including card’s pin (if there’s one). that’s how they can track the card’s usage. but they have no measures in place if a seller also RE-SELLS the SAME card on another site AFTER s/he sold it on raise. Another online reviewer we saw surmises it could also be an inside job, which we tend to agree since the problem began only recently.

normal CC has a deadline for filing disputes, generally 60-90 days. matters complicate further if a card is PARTIALLY drained after you used it and you want to file it with your CC. Raise just revised their policy on November 6, which you have to click, i.e. basically to agree, if you want to continue to buy from/ sell with them. The refund is really on their discretion. If they refuse, you have no recourse. And as more people are reporting fraud, you can expect there will be more denials in getting your refund further down the road.

I had the offer as a notification in the app. Also saw nothing at checkout, but since it applies later I didn’t really expect to.

Are Raise Pay cards new from the store or preowned?

It looks like they are new. I only looked at a few of the cards: Best Buy, Whole Foods and CBS All Access. With Whole Foods you were able to customize any amount from 5 – 500.

I ended up going with CBS All Access. They were giving 6% back regularly, so with the extra $10 on a $100 purchase, plus 1% on Swagbucks and 2% through my Citi Cashback, it’s essentially $81 for a $100 card.

Raise pay is only in the app, I don’t think a portal will work for this.

Raise Pay is on desktop too but you can’t earn anything on RaisePay purchases yet

You earn an ADDITIONAL $10 in raise money which can be later used to ANY raise purchase, on top of whatever discount you already get on the gift card plus the Portal discount plus your CC cash back.

Use Samsung Pay on the app with a Chase Freedom card for 5% back

How would this work since I thought you have to go through Chase Pay first to get the 5% back?

Any way to tell if I have maxed out portal payouts? Also, is this maximum per portal or a total across all the different types of portals?
