Here are some of the most popular posts from past few days:
Hi,
So I wanted to let you guys all know that the ban is NOT from Moneygram, even though it impacts MoneyGram transactions the bans are being put in place by WM Corporate. I spent probably 12 hours on the phone yesterday between WM, MoneyGram, my local store’s management etc.
Here’s my situation:
Until July I was flying low doing 2k here or there. Then once the 1k cards hit I ramped up and I’ve been doing 150k a month. If do 8k a day, 5 times a week give or take. In my area out of 10 WM only 2 are MS friendly which I worked with. Then about 3 weeks ago I went on vacation to California and MS’d at WM Neighborhood Market. I did a transaction with actually the assistant manager himself. Then the next day I went back and was told by CSM that no you can’t use those cards here for Money Orders. I said that’s really strange because the assistant store manager himself sold me them just yesterday. Seeing that he had walked by I asked her if she could check with him. Very irritatedly she said she would ask. She went away for 15 mins came back and told a cashier to process the transaction, but didn’t say a word to me. At this point the transaction was already set up, my ID was entered along with SSN and occupation so the only thing waiting was payment. The CSM whispers into the cashier’s ear and tells her to type on the screen, I hear the cashier say, “Can I still get to it from this screen”, then typing for a good 2-3 minutes before proceeding with the transaction.
This is where I’m guessing everything went wrong, I’m guessing that what happened was the CSM made her file an SAR against me.
After that I was still able to go to other WM locations up until yesterday where I went to my local MS friendly WM and the banner popped up saying, Please politely tell the customer we cannot proceed with their transaction. This store’s CSM came and looked very puzzled as they had never seen the message before. They said to call MoneyGram as it must’ve been on their end. I called them and was transferred around and was told by a supervisor that it was not them that they have no way to ask a merchant to stop a specific individual from purchasing Money Orders and that it would be on the merchant’s end.
So for now I’m stuck, I hope someone finds a way to appeal the bans as this is not really a fair situation.
Tl/dr you asked for it. Someone says no, smile, shut up, and move on. Or, in your case, burn it for yourself and others!
I don’t think I burned it for anyone my friend said he went to that same one 2 days later and no issues. It was just one CSM who it seems was set straight by the Assistant Manager.
That’s good. At least you only burned yourself trying to usurp Karen’s authority.
You’re right, this really is not a fair situation. You went on vacation to an area known to be a MS wasteland and raised a fuss.
Actually it was SoCal, not NorCal which is actually pretty MS friendly. I have a half dozen friends who frequently MS in the areas I went to.
As far as “raising a fuss” I literally never say anything when they say no, but it was only because the assistant manager personally rang me up the day prior and if there was an issue he would have said it was not allowed. Had she come back from him and said that their store policy is not to allow it then I would’ve left it at that. It was a very specific situation and I saw him walk by so I figured why not ask that way at least I’d know for sure if this location was not MS friendly or if it was one CSM who just did not like me for personal reasons. It tends to be female CSM’s in their 40’s and 50’s who arbitrarily deny younger people.
When you see a Karen you just turn around & live to fight another day. Lesson learned.
So you ruined the region for your friends. Bet they don’t ask you back again.
Two Walmarts near me both moderately MS friendly have their Moneygram MOs down for a few days. This is the first time this has ever happened. Earlier it just used to be a printer problem. However, Moneygram is working fine at a grocery store that I go to as well. I suspect Walmart corporate is shutting down MOs in CA to audit them? There is no other explanation of why they would have the service down for so many days when it is working elsewhere.
My understanding is that a lol of NorCal WM Money Centers are being hit with fraud by people doing MOs with fraudulently acquired VGCs. To the CSRs, it looks no different to what churners do that fraudsters do. WM ends up being on the hook if someone charges back a VGC, which charges back WM.
Also, I disagree that raising a fuss here has anything to do with it. Karen being vindictive is actually grounds for a lawsuit as it interferes with your ability to obtain a public product at WM, not to mention cost you money + time to go there.
A way to know that MoneyGram is being honest about it being all WM is to simply go to another grocery that uses MG and do a transaction requiring ID. If no ban, then indeed the database is WM-based.
I remember when the $8k MO limit came out I thought “well great, now MG has a way to track the high volume guys even with their $8k limit and ban us all”. Like so many things I worry about in this hobby, it ends up being true.
I know that so many, have been hoping that it was just ‘Vinh thing – reigning shutdown king’. JK Vinh ( Miles per day). Seems like WM or MG is becoming risk averse.
You forgot to mention the 25K limit/day they track at Simon Mall. Two prong attack by WM and SM for the IRS to find the whales! Forget the bottom feeders
Consequently MOA stop selling us vgc after so many years. Everything is connected ehh?
Yeah Simon going to $25k absolutely killed me; I got banned from WF because of it haha.
Priority pass should start including reviews of the lounges. Or at least a star rating and the top complimentary and critical review for each lounge.
Check loungebuddy?
That’s usually not the best way to market your product….
You gonna fly to/through a different airport cause someone rated a lounge half a star higher/lower?
